Dist. 212, Teachers, Support Working Toward New Deals

Leyden High School Dist. 212 teachers and support staffers are working without contracts as agreements between the school district and the two groups expired yesterday (Tuesday).

District and union officials remain in "meaningful discussion" to renew the two separate contracts, but had not reached an agreement as of yesterday.

Assistant Dist. 212 Supt. for Business Affairs Tom Janateas said the two sides have been in talks for several months but said he could not discuss any specifics of the negotiations while they are underway.

The terms of both the teachers' and support staffs' recently expired contracts were five years.
