New Flooring At East Leyden, Courtesy of Rosemont

The Rosemont Village Board Wednesday awarded a contract for $29,750 to install new flooring in the main entryway of East Leyden High School as part of the school's new Wall of Fame installation.

Mayor Brad Stephens said the village was paying for the new floors.

"The school has been very helpful with the TIFs (tax increment financing districts)," he explained. He added that good schools equal good property values in the village.

Rosemont has more TIFs than most communities. Under the TIF rules, property taxes that would go to schools are deferred for a period of years to spur economic development.

A contract for the floor work was awarded to Metropolitan Terrazzo LLC for terrazzo flooring in the main entrance. The floor will include the school's eagle logo.

Stephens has also committed to help the school district with the new Wall of Fame projects at both the East and West campuses.

The projects will include larger 8"x10" displays of wall inductees.

At East, a video monitor provided by Abt Electronics of Glenview will be placed in the front entrance displaying video shorts on Wall of Fame inductees. Work on the floors and new Wall of Fame projects at both the campuses is set to begin over the summer break.
