Township Purchases Eight New Vehicles

Leyden Township took delivery of eight new vehicles last month and is expecting two more this week.

The township bought three Ford Focuses, four Ford pick up trucks, one Ford van and two small dump trucks from Packey Web Ford at a cost of $250,000.

Township Highway Department Supt. Mike Losurdo said the old vehicles were aging and some in need of serious repair.

The township is only waiting on the two dump trucks.

The rest were delivered last month.

Losurdo said the township would benefit from the added fuel savings of the four cylinder, 32 mile per gallon Focuses.

He said the smaller cars will replace a 1991 GMC Yukon and a 1991 GMC Jimmy that were driven by township water and code enforcement staff. The pick up trucks were also about 15 years old.

The van being replaced was a 1999 model.

Losurdo said bids were sent out for the new cars in January of this year.

He said the Focuses cost about $11,000 each, the cargo van cost $18,000, the four pick up trucks cost $28,000 each and the two dump trucks cost about $50,000 each.

The old vehicles were traded in to Packey Web Ford.
