'Fill The Boot' Benefits Burn Camp
Rosemont Public Safety personnel hit the streets last weekend, taking donations for the annual Fill the Boot campaign.
Proceeds from the fundraising drive support the Illinois Safety Alliance's "Camp I Am Me", also known as burn camp.
The two-week camp for burn victims, located in far Northwest suburban Volo, near Fox Lake, allows children to play with other kids without being self conscious about their condition.
Rosemont Sgt. John Ramirez headed up the effort that saw firefighters line River Road. He admitted he was disappointed in the $2,579 raised this year.
Last year, Ramirez said the department collected $3,500, $1,000 of which came from office building tenants.
Fewer firefighters were out collecting for the campaign, Ramirez said, and donations from office buildings this year only amounted to $150. Rosemont has supported the camp for the last 15 years using different fundraising campaigns.
