The Rosemont Voters League took in more than $65,000 between July 1, 2007 and Dec. 31, 2007, according to state campaign disclosure records.
Of the $65,059 on hand during that period, the Voters League spent more than $59,000 on a variety of expenses ranging from the publishing of the community's newsletter to funding a bingo party for the Rosemont School Benefit Club.
The league is essentially a private organization that members pay a small fee to join.
Its purpose is to enhance the community and endorse and support qualified candidates for local office.
According to the state campaign disclosure report, the league had $48,096.61 on hand at the beginning of the reporting period, July 1.
Another $11,962 was generated from individual contributions and $5,000 from transfers in. Two of the individual contributions totaling $10,000 came from Bomark Cleaning Service, Inc., and Rosemont Exposition Services, Inc. Bomark is owned by Mark Stephens, Mayor Brad Stephens brother. The $5,000 transfer in came from the Bradley A. Stephens Committeeman Fund. Mayor Stephens also serves as Leyden Township Republican committeeman.
Among the expenditures during the reporting period was $13,168 for Aramark to provide food for the league's August picnic; $500 for sponsorship of Boy Scout Troop 20; $3,170 for Chicago Party Rental in July and $2,630 for Clowning Around Entertainment for the summer picnic.
