Rosemont School: Don't Use Handicap Spot As Drop-Off
Rosemont School wants parents to know that parking in the handicap space near the entrance, even for a quick pickup, is not allowed.
Rosemont Elementary School Dist. 78 Supt. Kevin Anderson said it had become a problem in the past and there will now be a more visible handicap sign and police presence to enforce it.
"They were using it as a drop off," Anderson explained.
The school now has a mobile handicap sign on the spot to make it more noticeable as Anderson said there was only paint on the pavement before.
The sign's mobility allows for the school to move it for plowing or cleaning.
The school also has an auxiliary officer in the morning that will concentrate on keeping the cars moving and the spot clear.
Anderson said they aren't trying to punish anyone but just make sure the space is available.
"We're not trying to be mean," Anderson said. "Just make sure parents know it's designated for handicap."
The notification to parents was also in the latest district newsletter to help make them more aware of the situation.
