3 Leyden Scholarships Created In Honor Of Late Mayor

Three scholarships, each totaling $5,000, have been established at Leyden Township High School Dist. 212 in the name of former Rosemont Mayor Donald E. Stephens.

Two of the scholarships are academic and one athletic. The purpose of the funds is to assist deserving youths with paying for their college expenses, according to present Rosemont Mayor Bradley Stephens. He is the son of he late mayor who passed away in 2007. Funding is provided by the Bradley Stephens Committeeman Fund. Stephens currently serves as Leyden Township Republican committeeman, a post his father held for many years before he died almost a year ago.

The scholarships are expected to presented to chosen seniors in May. The scholarship selection committee consists of former Dist. 212 school board President Dick Nardini, Capt. Rick Drehobl, a member of the Rosemont Public Safety Dept. and a Leyden grad, Don Stephens II, and two Dist. 212 staff members.
