Residents Treated To Festivities, Walk Through Town As Part Of 14th 'Stroll'
By TOM ROBB
Journal Reporter
Approximately 800 Rosemont residents---about one-fifth the village's entire population---went for a little stroll last Saturday at the 14th annual Saturday Stroll.
The event is designed to bring families together for a casual walk and to raise money for charity.
Residents walked a winding route in the gated community starting at Lange Park through the neighborhood and finishing back at Lange where they were greeted with the band the Troy Burke Trio, and vendors selling food.
"We never wanted to advertise outside Rosemont because we wanted to take care of the people you see every day, the people you work with, the people you love," said Doug DuBrock, chairman of the Saturday Stroll Committee and Executive Director of the Willow Creek Club, which is owned and operated by the village.
DuBrock was eager to thank village officials, "Without their help we could not do it the way we do it. They truly truly help us out."
This year's event netted $11,000, after $9,000 in event expenses, to be donated for gastric cancer research in the name of the late Mayor Donald E. Stephens, according to DuBrock.
DuBrock said the Stroll is funded by $250 donations solicited from businesses along the Stroll's route.
The event is in its 14th year and has grown from 250 people attending the first year to 800 last weekend.
Charities that have benefited in the past include the American Heart Association and the American Lung Association.
