Water Main Break Closes Maine South
By CRAIG ADAMS Journal & Topics Reporter
A morning water main break in Park Ridge closed Maine South High School and one lane of northbound Dee Road on Tuesday, Feb. 23.
"Last night there was a main break on a six-inch water main feed for the property there," explained Ryan Rundquist, acting water department foreman. The city learned of the break at about 9 p.m. the previous evening. Police announced the break at 8:49 a.m. Tuesday using the new Nixel notification system.
"This morning, we inserted a valve on the six-inch line to isolate the break," Rundquist explained. No homes were involved in the shutdown, he added.
However, due to a lack of water, officials closed the high school and the adjacent Ralph Frost Administration Center on Dee Road. A girls track meet, open gyms, and practices scheduled for Tuesday evening were cancelled, according to the school's website. Police closed one lane of Dee and warned drivers about slippery conditions in the area. The roadway was reopened by 1 p.m. after repairs were completed.
