Park Ridge To Narrow Down Higgins Rd. Corridor Specifics
The Park Ridge Planning and Zoning Commission is planning additional changes to the city's Higgins Road Corridor Plan.
The commission continued a public hearing on the plan on Tuesday, Jan. 26. The city council heard a findings report on the corridor in March 2008. "(The commission) is going to come back with some additional changes for consideration," explained Carrie Davis, community preservation and development director.
The original report suggested professional offices, restaurants, and an entertainment venue for the Higgins corridor. Higgins serves as the border between Park Ridge and Chicago, with Park Ridge resting on the north side of the road between Canfield and Dee roads. The report listed a lack of restaurants in the area that could be patronized by the customers of many hotels on the Chicago side of the street and nearby offices. The report also suggested additional uses such as a health club, a bowling alley, or a combined restaurant and recreation business like a Dave & Busters.
"We wanted to see a little more specific guidance on some target sites in the plan to ensure there would be enough landscaping, open space, and parking," Davis said.
She said the commission will discuss the plan further at an upcoming meeting before sending it on to the city council. If the council approves the changes, they would then become part of the city's comprehensive plan.
