Police Unravel Story Made Up By 3 Boys
A group of Park Ridge boys could have landed a local man in a lot of trouble, but recanted their alleged fictitious story.
The three 12-year-olds were near the Centennial Park sled hill at 100 S. Western Ave. at about 2:30 p.m. Jan. 10. When they went home, they allegedly told their parents that a man had threatened and chased them near the park and again near Des Plaines and Home avenues.
Police contacted local schools to warn them of the event and heavily patrolled the area the next day. During those patrols, they located the man matching the description provided by the boys.
While police spoke to the man, another adult and child approached and told officers the real story. The witness told officers they heard the three children call the man names then run away, explained Police Commander Lou Jogmen.
Officers spoke to the three boys again and "station adjusted" them, meaning no formal charges were filed against them for their acts.
"There was no crime committed, especially by the adult," Jogmen stressed. "He did nothing inappropriate."
Jogmen indicated he did not know why the boys allegedly made up the story about the man.
