Hop On Bus To Holiday Happenings In South Park
Luminaries provided by Mary, Seat of Wisdom Boy Scout Troop 3 will light the way between the Uptown and South Park neighborhoods of Park Ridge during Friday's Winterfest celebration.
Stepping off a double-decker bus provided for the event at Prospect Avenue near Devon, shoppers will find the Maine South Marching Band performing at 7:30 p.m.
Once in South Park, a total of 14 local businesses and other locations, mostly along Devon Avenue, will open their doors to holiday revelers with free hot chocolate, hot cider and other treats.
Moving down Devon, festival-goers can see Santa's live reindeer at National City Bank, 607 Devon, and can meet the Jolly Old Elf himself at Living Sea Aquarium, 811 Devon.
An open house will be hosted by another fast moving group that travels in large red trucks and frequently walks on rooftops at the Park Ridge firehouse at Cumberland and Devon.
Strolling Girl Scouts will be winding their way through the neighborhood all evening long singing holiday songs.
Winterfest is in its 51st year in Park Ridge. Busses have linked the two neighborhoods for years. Bus service costs about $3,000. Boy Scouts recently decorated and sold 30 trees earning $600 to offset the cost of busses. The chamber of commerce has also hosted other fundraisers to defer costs.
