Enjoy Music, Man In Red & More Friday Night

When it comes to celebrating the opening of the Christmas season in Park Ridge, the Public Library is right in the middle of things.

The library's traditional holiday open house will again be one of the highlights of the community's Winterfest and holiday celebration on Friday, Nov. 27.

This year's activities include Santa Claus at the Library and The Dooley Brothers Irish and holiday music, at 6:30 p.m., and storyteller Grant Fitch at 7 p.m.

Santa Claus will arrive at 6:30 p.m. after his famous ride through Uptown on a fire engine accompanied by the usual large contingent of children. He will preside in the Children's Services Department until 8:30 p.m.

The Dooley Brothers, a River Forest family of six boys, will perform their eclectic routines of Irish reels, folk songs, and holiday melodies in the Reference Department, second floor, also starting at 6:30 p.m.

Master storyteller Fitch, an area children's author and actor, will present dramatic readings of Christmas stories and O Henry's "Gift of the Magi" in the  Reading Room, second floor, at 7 p.m.

Also, there will be ornament making for children from 6-8:30 p.m. in the first floor meeting room. Refreshments will be available through the evening in the library's reference department.

Double-decker buses will run all evening between South Park and Uptown to get visitors to and from these library activities, and relieve parking and traffic congestion in Uptown.
