Collision Injures 2; DUI Charged

A 23-year-old Park Ridge woman was seriously injured when an alleged drunken driver struck her Saturday morning.

She was driving north on Prospect Avenue approaching Oakton Street when John M. Monsen, 51, of the 7300 block of North Harlem Avenue in Chicago, allegedly went through the red light of eastbound Oakton Street.

Police said Monsen struck the woman's vehicle in the side, spinning her around, and causing her vehicle to strike another car stopped at the red light facing west. Paramedics extricated the woman from her car and transported her to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge for treatment.

A passenger in the westbound car also reported pain and was taken to the hospital.

Monsen, who was not injured in the crash, was charged with aggravated driving while under the influence of alcohol, driving with a revoked driver's license, illegal transportation of alcohol, no proof of insurance, and disobeying a traffic control device.
