Fireworks, Concert, Parade Back For '4th' Bash
The annual fireworks show, a concert, and a kiddy parade, highlight the Fourth of July weekend in Park Ridge.
The festivities begin on Friday, July 3 with entertainment for children at Maine East High School starting at 6:30 p.m. A concert by the Park Ridge Fine Arts Symphony follows at 8 p.m. The orchestra will play inspirational patriotic music, including Arthur Harris's Americana and Michael Gilbertson's Reflections on Rushmore. It will also play Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture leading into the fireworks display that begins at dusk.
Americaneagle.com sponsors the fireworks this year, however the city is still taking donations to help defray the other costs of planning and running the event. Parking is free, but preferred parking is available for $16.
On Saturday, July 4, the 53rd Annual Fourth of July Kiddie Day Parade, planned by the Kiwanis Club of Park Ridge, starts between 9:15 and 9:30 a.m. at Hodges Park.
The participants will march down Main Street to Fairview Avenue, over to Garden Avenue, then back to Hodges Park finishing at the steps of City Hall. It is planned to conclude by 10 a.m.
Kids can go from the parade over to the Farmers Market where a pinwheel making and Frisbee decorating event is planned from 9 to 11 a.m.
