Flood Task Force Forms
Park Ridge Mayor Dave Schmidt announced current members of the Flood Control Task Force during the Committee of the Whole meeting on Monday, June 8.
He selected Joe Saccomanno, former director of public works, to chair the task force. The other members are Lou Arrigoni, a current Planning and Zoning Commission member; Kim Jones, a state of Illinois employee who was chair of the Public Works Committee when an alderman; Bob Mack, who worked for Cook County in the storm water management division; Steve Tolan, a civil engineer, one of many residents in the city with a driveway that slopes down into his basement; and Gale Fabisch who has worked for the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago for about 30 years.
Schmidt added Daniel Carroll to the roster of task force members the next morning. Carroll is a compliance officer at Magnetar Capital Management.
"All of these people live here in town and are very interested in helping out," Schmidt said at the meeting. He added that Public Works Director Wayne Zingsheim and City Engineer Sarah Mitchell would be staff liaisons to the force and Sue Tedeschi would take minutes.
The task force's first meeting will be Wednesday, June 17 at 6 p.m. in Council Chambers.
"They're going to be discussing their mission and their goals and the procedures they're going to follow," Schmidt said. "It would be a good time for the aldermen and members of the public to show up." The members will also decide how often they will meet at that first gathering.
"The expertise that we've been able to put together is phenomenal," Schmidt continued. He also spoke to Zingsheim and Mitchell. "I want to make sure our public works department understands this is not a reflection on you. This is to assist you, not to replace you," he said.
