Three For Sure On April Ballot

At least three people plan to file for elected office in Park Ridge, with more surprise candidates still a possibility.

Mayor Howard Frimark and First Ward Ald. Dave Schmidt have both announced their intentions to run for mayor. Clerk Betty Henneman also plans to run again for her seat. Mayor and clerk are the only two seats up for election in April of 2009.

However, Dep. Clerk Cheryl Peterson said on Monday that another citizen picked up two nominating packets for the positions. That woman got the packets at City Hall, but Peterson explained the city does not require identification from people picking up the packets. The woman gave her name, but not a spelling and there is no telephone listing for an assumed spelling of that name in the city.

Any residents interested in either office can also download nominating packets from the Internet, so other candidates could still come forward during the filing week. The filing period for elected offices begins at 8:30 a.m. Jan. 19 and runs until 5 p.m. on Jan. 26.
