City Eyes Red Light Cameras At Oakton & Dee

Red light cameras mounted at Oakton Street and Dee Road in to catch traffic light violators and prevent accidents, moved closer to reality in Park Ridge at the Public Safety Committee meeting on Thursday, July 17.

"This will be something we're going to be walking through at the August meeting," said Ald. Frank Wsol (7th), chair of the committee.

Vendors made presentations and analyses of the cameras and likely intersections at previous committee meetings. After reviewing those reports, Ald. Don Bach (3rd) asked the committee to put proposed cameras for the one intersection as an action item for the next meeting.

"That's the only intersection he (Bach) was inclined to think was a good candidate," Wsol explained.

Wsol said that intersection has a high accident rate and cameras provide the possibility of minimizing the number of accidents there. A representative from one of the camera firms will be at the next meeting.
