Council OKs Two New Police Vehicles
Park Ridge City Council members approved several payments and purchases at their meeting on Monday, May 19.
They granted the purchase of two new Ford Crown Victorias for the police department to replace two 2004 models of the same vehicle. The department will buy the new squad cars from Morrow Brothers Ford in Greenfield, Ill. and dispose of the current vehicle by either trade-in or auction.
Also approved was a cleaning contract for window washing, carpet cleaning, tile floor waxing, evening vacuuming, refuse collecting, dusting, washroom cleaning, and other services for City Hall. That contract was for $23,700 to Best Quality Cleaning, Inc., of Franklin Park. An outstanding invoice from Metra for the rebuilding of the Dee Road station in 2004 also passed the council. Metra invoiced the city for $196,700 for alternate improvement work at the station by request of the city. The money was part of the city's Capital Plan for 2004-2005. Payment for the resurfacing of the Uptown parking lot also passed. That payment of $169,057.90 went to Construction Management Corp. of Illinois.
The city approved the continuance of several types of insurance. It carries a $12 million liability insurance with Lloyds of London, workers compensation through Safety National, a crime policy through Hartford, surety bonds for the city manager, finance director, and assistant finance director, and property insurance through Chubb. The payments for those policies, and a brokerage fee of $19,500, go through Arthur J. Gallagher Risk Management Services of Itasca. The total for the coming year was $254,126.
Park Ridge also participates in a high-level excess liability pool with several other municipalities. The payment for the year was $56,612. Park Ridge represents 6% of the pool's equity.
Although there is no payment in advance, aldermen agreed to continue an agreement with Broadspire & Co. of Schaumburg to administer third party claims against the city.
A payment of $261,273 was approved to PRC Partners for parking garage expenses. In addition, City Manager pro tempore Juliana Maller announced PRC would turn ownership of the garage over to the city on Tuesday, May 20.
Council members agreed to another year lease of the parking lot at 20 S. Fairview Ave. for the rental of 50 spaces. The lease, totaling $25,000, is based on $500 per parking space for the year.
