Several Forums On Tap For Council Candidates

Candidate nights, debates and forums are sprouting up all over Park Ridge now, to match the number of candidates (17) that have filed for seats on the city council in the upcoming Apr. 1 election.

Nearly half-a-dozen "candidate nights," a term describing any event in which an aldermanic candidate speaks or appears, are now planned in the next few weeks.

Here, for quick reference, is a quick list of them:

* The second Meet Your Candidate Forum sponsored by CURRB (Citizens United to Retain Residential Balance) is tonight at 7 p.m. in St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 306 S. Prospect. Candidates from the 5th, 6th, and 7th wards (nine in all) will be on hand to present their platforms and answer questions.

The first of these CURRB forums was held for candidates in wards 1-4 on Tuesday night, Feb. 25.

* The Republican Women of Park Ridge is sponsoring a candidate forum with dessert and coffee at 7 p.m. tomorrow (Thursday) at the South Park Recreation Center, Talcott and Cumberland. All the candidates for city, park district, and school board offices have been invited.

* The Homeowners Party, which is endorsing seven of the candidates (one for each vacant seat), is having a Party-Party fund-raiser on Friday, Mar. 7, at 8 p.m. in Crystal Palace banquets, 2648 Dempster Street, Park Ridge. This will feature a Hawaiian luau theme with live music and dancing, food, and oral and silent auctions. Auction items may be donated by calling Alice Crawford, co-chairman, at 847-692-4518.

* The League of Women Voters of Park Ridge is holding a candidates forum on Tuesday, Mar. 18, at 7 p.m.
