City Continues Contributions To Children Advocacy, Omni Centers

By BOBBY CHILVER Journal & Topics Reporter

Even in the midst of budget cuts, Prospect Hts. aldermen agreed Monday night that contributions to two local service agencies were a must.

Each year the city budgets for $7,500 in contributions to be split between the Children's Advocacy Center and Omni Resource Center.

City Administrator Pam Arrigoni said typically around this time, staff brings the contributions up to the City Council to see if they payments should be made or if they should be held back. Arrigoni pointed out there have been years the contributions have not been made due to the financial outlook.

But this year aldermen wanted to make sure these organizations had the money to continue their work in the community.

"Both of these organizations make great contributions to our residents," Arrigoni said.

She noted that the Children's Advocacy Center had assisted 11 victims of child abuse and their families during 2009. Over 141 hour of service were recorded to these clients.

At the Omni Resource Center, over 700 residents from Prospect Hts. alone have used available services.

Aldermen unanimously voted to go forward with the contributions.

"I wish it could be more," Ald. John Styler said.
