Fire Damages Vacant Home
There were no injuries reported by the Prospect Hts. Fire District after a fire erupted on Saturday, Jan. 16 at 12:34 a.m. at 3211 Ellen Dr. in Arlington Hts., located south of Dundee Road and west of Buffalo Grove Road.
According to Prospect Hts. fire officials, the first fire companies arrived on the scene and found heavy black smoke and fire coming from the one-story residential home.
Fire officials said due to the distance from a fire hydrant and the lack of a residential sprinkler system, the incident was immediately upgraded to bring in additional fire units from Wheeling, Mt. Prospect, Arlington Hts., Long Grove, Deerfield, Palatine and Buffalo Grove.
It was quickly determined the house was vacant and there were no occupants living in the home.
The incident was brought under control and contained within 45 minutes.
Damage to the building is estimated at $150,000, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The Fire District reminds all residents that a smoke detector is their first line of defense in the event of a fire. They ask that people ensure detectors are working at all times and to test it monthly.
