No injuries were reported following a fire that was contained to a garage and kitchen in Prospect Hts. on Wednesday.
The Prospect Hts. Fire Protection District responded to 401 Woodview Dr., located near Schoenbeck Road just south of Hintz Road, for a reported garage fire shortly after 1 p.m. Nov. 11.
The first fire companies arriving on the scene reported heavy black smoke and fire coming from the attached three-car garage of the two-story residential home.
Due to the size of the structure, the lack of fire hydrants in the area, and the lack of a fire sprinkler system, the incident was immediately upgraded to a box alarm. The box alarm response brought additional fire units from Wheeling, Mt. Prospect, Northbrook, Arlington Hts., Long Grove, Elk Grove Township, Des Plaines, North Maine, Niles, Deerfield, Lincolnshire-Riverwoods, Palatine, Palatine Rural and Glenview into Prospect Hts.
Fire officials said the blaze was brought under control and contained to the garage and kitchen areas of the home within 30 minutes. There were no injuries and the one person who was home safely escaped prior to the fire department's arrival.
Firefighters assisted with the removal of the family's two pet birds both of whom were uninjured in the incident.
Damage to the home is estimated at $200,000. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
