City Approves Nail Technician School
Prospect Hts. aldermen approved a proposal recently for a small nail technician school to be located at 1301 S. Wolf Road.
Ryan Kim, attorney for the Beautiful Land Company, explained that his client would buy an existing building and establish the small cosmetology/nail academy on the fourth floor, which is currently vacant.
The rest of the tenants will be able to stay in the building and there is the possibility of a small retail store to be located on the first floor.
Kim said the company is based in Korea and the academy would be used as a reward for those who excel in the home country. About five to ten students, mostly females, would be brought over from Korea for a two-week, 50-hour program.
The academy allows these students to obtain an American nail technician license, which will help further their career in Korea. After the program is finished, the students travel the world for a period of time and then return home.
About 100 students would be trained per year and Kim pointed out that they would most likely stay in local hotels and use local businesses.
The proposal was recommended for approval by the Planning & Zoning board and the City Council agreed it would be a nice addition.
Aldermen specifically liked that it could help boost sales tax revenue, as the students would be using Prospect Hts. hotels and other nearby businesses.
The academy was approved by a 4-0 vote, with Ald. John Styler being absent from the meeting.
