City Adding, Expanding Committees

By BOBBY CHILVER Journal & Topics Reporter

Prospect Hts. Mayor Dolly Vole got to work Monday following through on campaign promises and establishing more city committees.

The ad hoc finance committee was expanded, officially changed to a standing committee, while an economic/business development committee was also established.

Vole pushed for more committees since joining the council, hoping they can help give residents a better avenue to voice concerns.

The ad hoc finance committee was established last year and will now be a regular standing committee. As part of the change, it will be expanded from three members to five members.

There was a bit of a debate Monday over committee regulations, as Ald. Bree Higgins did not agree with a regulation that exempts two members from being Prospect Hts. residents.

Vole said that exception was put into the committee so Prospect Hts. business owners could join the group, as they also have an interest in city finances.

But Higgins contended that the new development committee would be a better place for business owners and the finance committee should only include Prospect Hts. residents.

Ultimately, the rules remained the same as Higgins was the only alderman to vote against the proposed committee regulations.

Vole will likely be appointing members to both committees in the coming weeks. Those interested in positions should contact Mayor Vole at City Hall.

In related news, the city will also be establishing a committee for the 2010 census.

Vole explained that it is important for all residents to be counted, as population numbers determine how much money Prospect Hts. receives from the state.

The committee will help promote the census, knock on doors and urge residents to send in their household information.
