Of Arlington Hts.

A funeral service for Martha Asherman, 81, took place Monday, Feb. 22, at The Lutheran Home in Arlington Hts. Interment was private. Visitation preceded the service. Mrs. Asherman was born on June 15, 1928, in Chicago. She died on Feb. 16, 2010 in Arlington Hts. Her husband Charles Asherman and her son Christopher preceded her in death. Her children Sharon (Jim) Clifford, Kent (Mary) Linton, Juli Stone, and Douglas (Lisa) Asherman survive her. Glueckert Funeral Home in Arlington Hts. made funeral arrangements.

Lester Bethke

Of Niles

A funeral service for Lester Bethke of Niles, 87, was held Saturday, Feb. 20 at St. John Brebeuf Church in Niles. He was born July 13, 1922. He passed away Tuesday, Feb. 16. He was a veteran of the Army. He is survived by his wife, Eleanor; and children, William, Kathryn, Philip, and Mary.

Lorraine H. Bijak

Of Palatine

Lorraine H. Bijak, 92, of Palatine, died Feb. 11 in her home. She was born Sept. 17, 1917, in Chicago. She worked as a teacher and librarian for the Barrington school district. She was the daughter of the late Charles and Veronica Bijak; sister of the late Harriet Eby; aunt of Barbara (William) Lundberg, Robert and James Eby. Funeral services were Sunday, Feb. 14, at Meadows Funeral Home in Rolling Meadows. Interment at Chatsworth Cemetery, Chatsworth, Ill.

Diana Davajon

Of Arlington Hts.

A funeral service for Diana Davajon of Arlington Hts., 67, was held Monday, Feb. 22 at Glueckert Funeral Homes in Arlington Hts. She was born May 21, 1942 in North Little Rock, Ark. She passed away Tuesday, Feb. 16 at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood. She is survived by her husband, George; and brother, William Farris.

Barry T. Gallagher

Formerly Of Elk Grove Village

Barry T. Gallagher, 50, of Chicago, formerly of Elk Grove Village, died on Jan. 26. Memorial services were held Saturday, Jan. 30 at Grove Memorial Chapel in Elk Grove Village. Mr. Gallagher was attending the University of Illinois in Chicago for his Masters in Computer Science Engineering. He was active in the Salvation Army. He is survived by his children Sean T. Gallagher, Jacqueline Gallagher, Elizabeth (Shawn Henby) Gallagher; granddaughter Jazlynn and his siblings John (Yvette) and Gary M. (Joyce).

Wendel Gartner

Of Mt. Prospect

Wendel Gartner, 96, of Mt. Prospect, was born Oct. 20, 1913, in Austria. He died Tuesday, Jan. 19, in Arlington Hts. He was a retired carpenter. He was the husband of the late Katherine; father of the late Mariane (George) Kaempf and the late Katherine E. (Manfred A.) Schmidt; grandfather of Jeff (Sharon), Steve (Kathy) and David (Cindy) Kaempf, Anthony Schmidt, Sonia (Jay) Austin and Peter Schmidt; and great-grandfather of nine. Funeral Mass was celebrated Friday, Jan. 22 at St. Thomas Becket Church in Mt. Prospect. Matz Funeral Home handled the arrangements.

Ellen Grubbs

Formerly of Des Plaines

A memorial service will be held for Ellen Grubbs, 49, formerly of Des Plaines, at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 27 at St. Mary's in Des Plaines. She passed away Tuesday, Feb. 9 at Mt. Carmel East Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, following complications from flu and asthma. Grubbs grew up in Des Plaines and attended Maine East High School. She was also the manager of Fannie Mae when it was located on Ellinwood Street. She is survived by her husband, Russell; children, Caitlin and Russell; mother, Mary Lou Vinzant; and siblings, Gary (Lorraine) Vinzant, Marry Ann (Glenn) Fuller, Tom Vinzant, Karen (John) Asa, and Carol (David Lidsky) Vinzant.

Marilynn Margaret Hale

Of Prospect Hts.

Funeral services for Marilynn Margaret Hale (nee Bilstein) of Prospect Hts. will began with prayers at Matz Funeral Home before proceeding to St. Alphonsus Church for Funeral Mass and entombment at All Saints Cemetery. Hale was born in Chicago on July 25, 1927 and died in her home in Prospect Hts. on Feb. 15, 2010. She was 82 years old. After attending classes at the Art Institute of Chicago, Hale worked as a graphic artist until her marriage. She remained an accomplished artist working in oil and watercolors and was a member of the Arlington Hts. Art Guild. Once married, she worked along side her husband Curtis as a bookkeeper. Hale is survived by her husband Curtis, children; Brian (Linda), David (Lucia) and Michael Hale, Janet (Tony) Unruh, Marcy (Mark) Onan, Carol (Bruce) Hawkinson, grandchildren; Bryan, David Jr., Laura, Brianna, Christina, Anthony, Christopher, Angela, Erin, Eric, Lauren and Alex, great-grandchildren Sophia and Elyse and brother George (Lois) Bilstein.

Phyllis Catherine Henderson

Of Arlington Hts.

Phyllis Catherine Henderson, 71, (nee Piotrowski), of Arlington Hts., died in her home on Feb. 2. She was born Mar. 12, 1938 in Chicago and enjoyed a 30-year career teaching in River Trails School Dist. 26. She retired in 1994 and enjoyed traveling with her husband, Bob. Funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday, Feb. 6 at St. Raymond de Penafort Church, Mt. Prospect. Interment in Wheeling Township Cemetery.

Josef Hinterhauser

Of Palatine

A funeral service for Josef Hinterhauser of Palatine, 87, was held Monday, Feb. 22 at Glueckert Funeral Home in Arlington Hts. He was born Dec. 22, 19922 in Yugoslavia. He passed away Tuesday, Feb. 16 at Brookside Hospice House in Palm Harbor, Fla. He is survived by his wife, Alice; daughters, Helene (John) Sweger and Linda (Larry) Schultz; and stepsons, Edmund (Sue) Kawa and Theodore (Denise) Kawa. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathy.

James David Holtz

Of Rolling Meadows

Visitation for James David Holtz, 82, of Palatine was held Sunday, Feb. 21 at Meadows Funeral Home, Rolling Meadows. Internment will be private and no funeral service is scheduled. Holtz was born in Rockford, Ill. on Aug. 15, 1927 and died at Manor Cape in Rolling Meadows on Feb. 17, 2010. Holtz served in the United States Navy in World War II and was later a partner and vice president for an industrial manufacturing firm. Holtz is survived by his wife Barbara (nee Schnell), children Rebecca (Walter) Rolph and Guy (Amy) Tichy, sister Vae Heller, nephew David Heller, and nieces Leslie Vasquez and Jessica Chadd.

Joan B. Iacullo

Of Mt. Prospect

Joan B. Iacullo was born May 24, 1937 in Chicago. She died Feb. 12 at Rosewood Care Center of Inverness. Survivors include her children William E. (Denise) Iacullo, Mary (Lou) Sbarboro; grandchildren, Louie, Nicole (Kevin) and Erin; brothers Edmund, Royal and John Sites, sisters-in-law Antoinette Esposito, Delores (George) Dassie, Rosemary (Charles) Pintozzi, Patricia (Renato) Ziccarelli, Regina (Peter) Schintgen; her brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, William A. Funeral Mass was Thursday, Feb. 18 at Carmelite Monastery, Des Plaines. Interment at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.

Dorothy Jastrebski

Of Mt. Prospect

A funeral service for Dorothy Jastrebski of Mt. Prospect, 85, was held Saturday, Feb. 20 at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church, Mt. Prospect. She was born Jan. 25, 1925. She passed away Saturday, Feb. 13 in her home. She is survived by children, Donald, Annette, Janet, Robert, and Thomas; grandchildren, Brian, Mark, Kyle, Joshua, Gabrielle, Katelyn, Matthew, and Benjamin; and great grandchildren Brenda and Avery. Mrs. Jastrebski was preceded in death by her husband, Casimir; and daughter, Susie.

Kenneth L. Jewell

Of Rolling Meadows

Kenneth L. Jewell, 77, of Rolling Meadows, died Feb. 12 in his home. He was born June 3, 1931 in Mason Lake, Wisc., and served in the Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a baseball and soccer coach and played baseball for the Park Ridge American Legion. He worked as a maintenance man for many years. He was the husband of Shirley; father of Kerry (Freddie) Little, Patricia (Ricky) Perez, and Leo Jewell; grandfather of five; great-grandfather of one and loving brother. Funeral services were Monday, Feb. 15 at Meadows Funeral Home in Rolling Meadows.

Ronald E. Johnson

Of Rolling Meadows

Ronald E. Johnson, 74, of Rolling Meadows, died on Feb. 3. He was the husband of Helen; father of Brett, Pamela (Tellis) Burns, Kurt (Maria), Craig (Grace) and Robyn (Brian) Geary and grandfather of eight. He was a Marine/Korean War veteran and recognized leader of distinction with the Boy Scouts of America and Rolling Meadows Scoutmaster Pack 180. Interment will be at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, Ill. Cremation Society of Illinois handled the arrangements.

Edward Kunz

Of Mt. Prospect

A funeral service for Edward Kunz took place Wednesday, Feb. 17 at Friedrichs Funeral Home in Mt. Prospect. Interment will be private. Mr. Kunz was born on Jan. 30, 1918 in Chicago. He died on Feb. 15, 2010 at ManorCare in Arlington Hts. His wife Lillian Kunz (nee Liepelt) preceded him in death. His children Edward (Karen) Kunz and Linda (Don) Parenti survive him.

Stephanie S. Kuster

Of Rolling Meadows

Stephanie S. Kuster (nee Vojcik), 93, of Rolling Meadows, died Feb. 20 at Northwest Community Hospital. She was born Feb. 25, 1916, in Ironwood, Michigan. She worked for Electrodynamic in Rolling Meadows for many years. She was the wife of the late William; mother of Stephanie (Joseph) Righter and Valerie Kuster; grandmother of two; great-grandmother of two; sister of Edward Vojcik. Prayers will be said on Thursday, Feb. 25 at Meadows Funeral Home, Rolling Meadows and Mass at St. Colette Church.

Suzanne L. Loos

A funeral Mass for Suzanne L. "Sue" Loos, 78, of Hastings, Neb., formerly Arlington Hts., was held on Monday, Feb. 15 at St. Raymond de Penafort church, Mt. Prospect. She died Tuesday, Feb. 9 at Good Samaritan Village in Hastings. She was the mother of Catherine (Steve) Loh, Theresa (Pat) Finfrock, Jay (the late Jennifer) Loos, Andy (Cheryl) Loos and Mary (Eric) Christensen; grandmother of 17; loving sister and aunt and former wife of the late Jack Loos.

Ronald Menczywor

A funeral service for Ronald Menczywor, 68, of Huntley and formerly of Mt. Prospect, was held at St. Emily Church, 1400 E. Central Rd., Mt. Prospect. He was born Jan. 10, 1942 in Chicago. He passed away Thursday, Feb. 11 in his home. He is survived by his wife, Kathy; and children, Karen, Ray, and Russ.

Jean Menna

Of Arlington Hts.

A private funeral service for Jean Menna of Arlington Hts., 94, will be held. She was born Feb. 5, 1916 in Moltry, Ga. She passed away Saturday, Feb. 13 in Arlington Hts. She is survived by her daughter, Carole Reese. Mrs. Menna was preceded in death by her husband, Isaiah; and her granddaughter, Amanda.

Mary D. Nowak

Of Arlington Hts.

Mary D. Nowak was born Oct. 31, 1923, in Chicago. She died Feb. 13 at Centegra Hospital in Woodstock. She lived most of her life in Chicago then moved to Arlington Hts. ten years ago after the death of her husband. She is survived by her siblings, Jean (Stephen) O'Malley, Ruth (Richard) Henderson and Rita (Robert) Wahl and by many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Gerard A. Nowak. Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. James Church, Arlington Hts. Burial at Mt. Carmel Cemetery.

Marjorie Proctor

Of Des Plaines

A funeral service for Marjorie Proctor of Des Plaines, 81, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Mar. 6 at Oehler Funeral Home in Des Plaines. She was born Dec. 3 1928 in Melrose Park. She passed away Tuesday, Feb. 9 in Des Plaines. She was a member of the League of Women Voters and served as an election judge for many years. She was also a member of the Friends of the Des Plaines Public Library. She is survived by her daughter, Judith Lee (Robert) Newman; grandchildren, Robert and Audrey May Newman; and brother, Neil (Connie) Currens.

Antonio Salazar, Sr.

Of Rolling Meadows

A funeral service for Antonio Salazar Sr., 87, of Rolling Meadows, was held Saturday, Feb. 20, at St. Colette Church. Visitation took place Friday, Feb. 19, at Meadows Funeral Home. Interment was at All Saints Cemetery. Mr. Salazar was born Dec. 24, 1922 in Pearsall, Texas. He passed away on Feb. 17, 2010 at Manor Care of Rolling Meadows. He is survived by children Antonio Jr. (Gloria) and Alicia (Ed) Maier, his six great grandchildren, three great grandchildren and siblings Christina Lopez, Benita Garcia and Narcisa Villarreal. He is preceded in death by wife Angelita and siblings Frank and Edwardo.

Philipp Speer

Of Niles

A funeral service for Philipp Speer of Niles, 81, was held Friday, Feb. 19 at St. Thecla Church in Niles. He was born Nov. 10, 1928 in Kevnel, Yugoslavia. He passed away Tuesday, Feb. 16 at Alden North Shore Nursing and Rehab Center. He is survived by his wife, Ottilie; children, Annie (Richard) Krutsch, and Philipp (Christina) Speer; and grandchildren, Olivia, Ave, and Alexander.

William I. Sturm

Of Niles

William I. Sturm, 97, of Niles, died on Feb. 20 at Lutheran General Hospital. He was born May 14, 1912 in Spokane, Wash., and before retirement was an electrical engineer. Funeral services were at Skaja Terrace Funeral Home and St. John Brebeuf Church on Feb. 24. Survivors include his daughters, Virginia (Sturm) Webster and Rose Marie (Thomas) Zimmer; son William Sturm; six grandchildren, one godchild and two great-grandchildren.

William I. Timmer

Of Park Ridge

William I. Timmer, 90, of Park Ridge, died on Jan. 18. He was the husband of the late Anne; father of Dr. William (Dr. Juanita) Timmer and Diane Timmer; grandfather of Katherina, Charles, Michael and Andrew. Funeral services were Monday, Jan. 25, at Park Ridge Presbyterian Church, Park Ridge. Interment was in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Nelson Funeral Home handled the arrangements.

R. Jacquelyn Zinkus

Of Des Plaines

A funeral Mass for R. Jacquelyn Zinkus (nee Redfeairn), 79, took place Friday, Feb. 19 at St. Zachary Church in Des Plaines. Entombment will be at All Saints Mausoleum. Visitation was Thursday, Feb. 18, at Friedrichs Funeral Home in Mt. Prospect. Mrs. Zinkus was born on Apr. 9, 1931 in Salem, Ill. She died on Feb. 11, 2010 at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. Her husband John V. Zinkus and her children Rich (Janet) Zinkus and David M. (Pam) Zinkus survive her.
