Funeral services for Leona R. Bernardini, 77, of Arlington Hts., were held Saturday, Feb. 13 at Lauterburg & Oehler Funeral Home and St. James Church, Arlington Hts. She was the wife of the late Bernard R.; mother of Marisa (Mark) Saletnik and Robert B.; grandmother of Danielle, Brian, Stephanie, Tony and Natalie; sister of Mildred (Richard) Goebel, aunt of many nieces and nephews. Entombment at All Saints Mausoleum.

Andrew Calas

Of Des Plaines

A funeral service for Andrew Calas of Des Plaines, 78, will be held at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20 at Willow Creek Community Church Chapel, 67 E. Algonquin Rd., South Barrington. He was born on May 15, 1931 in Chicago. He passed away Saturday, Feb. 6 at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Hts. He was the founder of Andrews Paperboard in Elk Grove Village. He retired in 2000. He is survived by his wife, Darlene; children, Craig (Marietta) Calas, Candy (Jeff) Borst, and Curt (Jeanne) Calas; and grandchildren, Nicole, Danielle, Andrew, Becky, Brittany, Brian, Ben, J.J., and Olivia.

Marie Claude Cooney

Of Arlington Hts.

Marie Claude "Mimi" Cooney was born Jan. 25, 1926, in Nancy, France. She died Feb. 8 at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Hts.  She worked as a clinical nurse in California and was an ESL teacher at Harper College for 20 years. She is survived by her children, Christopher Cooney, Jennifer (Adrian) Vulpas; her grandchildren, Annie, Susie and Lisa and siblings, Dominique Troubat and Henri Lacassagne. She was preceded in death by her husband, David Cooney. Memorial Mass was celebrated Saturday, Feb. 13 at St. Thomas of Villanova Catholic Church, Palatine.

Nicholas J. Dovekas

Of Des Plaines

Funeral services for Nicholas J. Dovekas, a longtime Des Plaines resident, were held Saturday, Jan. 23 at Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home, Glenview, and proceeded to Sts. Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church, Glenview. Mr. Dovekas worked for Western Electric "AT&T" for over 35 years. He died Jan. 16. He was the father of Demetra (Timothy) Zyrkowski and Christine (John) Meyer; grandfather of Georgean and Nicholas (Lacy) Zyrkowski, John and Alexander Meyer; a loving brother, uncle and cousin. Funeral arrangements were made by John G. Adinamis Funeral Director, Ltd.

Patrick D. Hartley

Of Des Plaines

A funeral service for Patrick D. Hartley, 50, a lifelong Des Plaines resident, will be held at 11 a.m. today (Wednesday, Feb. 17) at St. Stephen Church in Des Plaines. Visitation took place Tuesday, Feb. 16 at Oehler Funeral Home. Interment will be at All Saints Cemetery. Mr. Hartley was born March 17, 1959 in Chicago. He was a 1977 graduate of Maine West High School and owner-operator of Hartley Plumbing. He passed away on Feb. 12, 2010 in Des Plaines. Mr. Hartley is survived by wife Valerie, children Tracy and Kelly, father William E., mother-in-law Patricia brothers William E. (Diane), Ron (Laura) and Glen (Lynn Chu), nieces and nephews Sean Hartley, Emily Van Essen and Colleen Booker and pets Casey and Sam. He is preceded in death by mother Wanda and father-in-law Richard Kuehne.

Maria Jablonski

Of Arlington Hts.

A funeral service for Maria Jablonski of Arlington Hts., 61, was held Friday, Feb. 12 at St. James Church in Arlington Hts. She was born Nov. 21, 1948 in Elsa, Texas. She passed away Sunday, Feb. 7 in Barrington. She is survived by her children, Annette and Jason; and her grandchildren, Stephen, Alexander, Isabella, and Elizabeth. Mrs. Jablonski was preceded in death by her husband, Casimir.

Virginia Janczak

A funeral service for Virginia Janczak of Niles, 78, was held Thursday, Feb. 4 at St. John Brebeuf Church in Niles. She was born Mar. 12, 1930 in Chicago. She passed away Sunday, Jan. 31 in her home. She is survived by her daughter, Pamela.

Arlene Kalina

Of Park Ridge

A funeral service and interment for Arlene Kalina, 73, was private. Visitation took place Wednesday, Feb. 10 from 3 to 9 p.m. at Ryan-Parke Funeral Home in Park Ridge. Her husband Al preceded her in death. Her children Scott (Marcia) and Todd (Joan) survive her.

William P. Karavas

Formerly of Arlington Hts.

William P. Karavas, 75, of Elgin, formerly of Arlington Hts., died on Feb. 9. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Ryan; sons George (Pamela), William Jr. (Nancy) and daughters Mary Karavas-Odom (Chuck) Odom and Karen (Mark) Pogalz and seven grandchildren. Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 13 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Elgin. Mass cremation was private at Countryside Crematory.

Gerard J. Kehoe

Of Arlington Hts.

Gerard J. Kehoe was born March 24, 1958, in Evergreen Park. He died on Sunday, Jan. 31, in Arlington Hts. Survivors include his wife, Karen Kehoe; daughters, Meagan, Kathleen, Lauren, and Samantha; mother, Margaret; siblings, Stephen (Judy) Kehoe, Helen (Henry) Frye, Karen (John) Brennan, and Joseph (Colleen) Kehoe. Prayers were said on Thursday, Feb. 4, at Glueckert Funeral Home and Mass at St. James Church, Arlington Hts. Burial was at St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery in Palatine.

Lucille M. Kempe

Of Park Ridge

A funeral service for Lucille M. Kempe, 85, took place on Feb. 6, on what would have been her 86th birthday, at Cooney Funeral Home in Park Ridge. Interment was at Town of Maine Cemetery. Visitation was Friday, Feb. 5 at the funeral home. Mrs. Kempe was born on Feb. 6, 1924. She died on Jan. 27, 2010. Her husband William E. preceded her in death. Her children June (Greg) Bechtold and Ellen survive her.

A funeral Mass for Arlene A. Knorr (nee Murray), 75, took place on Monday, Feb. 8 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Glenview. Interment was at All Saints Cemetery in Des Plaines. Visitation was Sunday, Feb. 7 at Simkins Funeral Home in Morton Grove. Mrs. Knorr was born on Oct. 1, 1934 in Chicago. She died on Feb. 3, 2010 at Rush Presbyterian St. Luke Medical Center in Chicago. Her husband Donald preceded her in death. Her children Donald (Marcia), Thomas (Melissa), Joe, Arlene (Bruce) Swanson, Mary (Bob) Hill and Kathleen Knorr survive her.

Pammy Kolozsy (nee Ramsden) 61, of Rolling Meadows, died Jan. 31 at Northwest Community Hospital, Arlington Hts. She was born Apr. 21, 1948, in Chicago and worked for HFC for many years.  She was the wife of Edward; mother of Jimmy (Kim) Diane Griggs, Misty Arena, Tony and Shawn; grandmother of four; great-grandmother of three; daughter of Gilda and the late Herbert Ramsden; sister of Patricia (George) Kallas, Jimmy (Dee) and Paul (Pam) Ramsden. Funeral services were held Friday, Feb. 5 at Meadows Funeral Home in Rolling Meadows.

Julia Ann Krambeer

Of Rolling Meadows

Julia Ann Krambeer (nee Bunn) 70, of Rolling Meadows, died Feb. 8, at Alden Estates of Barrington. She was born Jan. 30, 1940, in Chicago. She worked at Northwest Community Hospital in accounts receivable for over 20 years. She was the mother of William (Mary Kay) and Christopher (Angelia); grandmother of Abby, Grace, Joe, Ryan and Dylan and the sister of Laura and Jackson Bunn. Funeral services were held Friday, Feb. 12 at Meadows Funeral Home, Rolling Meadows.

Giesela M. Kraml

Of Palatine

A memorial service for Giesela M. Kraml, 71, was held Saturday, Feb. 13 at Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home, Palatine. Interment was private. She was born Sept. 11, 1938 in Fiefbergen, Germany, and died Monday, Feb. 8 at home. She was the wife of Albert E. Kraml; daughter of Herta Steffen; mother of Elisabeth (Ken) Partyka, Christine (Mark) Betz and Albert M. (Terry) Kraml; grandmother of seven; loving sister and aunt.

Joseph J. Kubik

Of Arlington Hts.

Joseph J. Kubik peacefully passed away at his home following his battle with cancer on January 16, 2010. He was born in Chicago, IL March 6, 1929. He and his family moved to Arlington Heights, IL where he resided for 41 years. He served in the Korean War (Signal Corps), worked for the Continental Bank in Chicago, was the owner of the Red Lantern Drive Inn in Chicago for 10 years, and enjoyed various sales positions for the Goodyear Tire Company until his retirement in 1988. Joe was a man of service and deep commitment to his Lord. He served as an Elder at Faith Lutheran Church in Naples. Prior he was active at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Arlington Heights, IL serving as President of the congregation and an Elder for 12 years. He was an active volunteer with the Salvation Army, Science and Arts Academy in Des Plaines, IL and Christ Community Lutheran School in Naples. Joe and his wife, Helene, enjoyed 21 years of meaningful marriage together, enjoying their permanent residence in Naples with family and friends.

Joe is survived by his wife, Helene; sons, David (Nancy) Kubik, Mark (Jennifer) Kubik and James (Jannine) Kubik; daughters, Laura (Mike) Oldenburg and Taryn (John) Hornby; grandchildren, Michael, Erin and Elizabeth Kubik, Sean and Chris Oldenburg, Katie and Alex Kubik and Enya and Jaryn Hornby and his sister, Ann (Dave) Peck.

Joe is deeply appreciated and cherished by Helene's children, Susan Paschal and her son, Luke; The Rev. R. Bartz and his family which includes eight grandchildren, David, Peter, Jenni, Andy, Stephen, Philip, Benjamin and Rachel and two great-grandchildren, Audrey and Claire.

Joe will ever be remembered for his friendly smile, helping hand and his mantra "Let's make things better". Wherever there was a need – call Joe! He will be dearly missed.

A memorial service will be held at Faith Lutheran Church, Saturday, January 23, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. with interment in Arlington Heights, IL at a later date.

Edna Dagny Mueller

Of Arlington Hts., formerly of Mt. Prospect

Edna Dagny Mueller, 86, of Arlington Hts., formerly a long-time Mt. Prospect resident, was born Apr. 14, 1923, in Chicago. She died Feb. 5 at the Moorings Health Center, Arlington Hts. She was the wife of the late Clement J. Mueller; mother of Linda (Thomas) Ernst, Donna Mueller and Mark Mueller; grandmother of three; great-grandmother of five. Funeral services were held Feb. 11 at Friedrichs Funeral Home, Mt. Prospect. Interment was at Ridgewood.

Elizabeth M. O'Leary

Of Des Plaines

Visitation for Elizabeth M. "Peggy" O'Leary, 77, a Des Plaines resident since 1984, took place Friday, Feb. 12, at Oehler Funeral Home in Des Plaines. Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 13 at St. Mary Church, Des Plaines. She was born Mar. 6, 1932 in Chicago and was an art teacher for Chicago Public Schools for 38 years. She died on Feb. 8 in Des Plaines. She is survived by her brother, Jerry (Pat) O'Leary; her nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; friend Marie Comiskey and cousin Margaret Cunningham and Jimmy O'Connor. She was a godmother to many.

Sandra L. Ogarek

Of Park Ridge

A funeral Mass for Sandra L. "Sandy" Ogarek, 76, took place Saturday, Feb. 13 at 10 a.m. at Mary, Seat of Wisdom Church in Park Ridge. Interment will be private. Her husband Bernard C. and her children Barbara, Cathy Bliss, Michael (Lori), Timothy, and Maureen (Mike) Gregory survive her. Ryan-Parke Funeral Home in Park Ridge made funeral arrangements.

Marilyn L. Parotto

Marilyn L. Parotto (nee Neville), 85, of Rolling Meadows, died Feb. 3 in her home. She was born Nov. 10, 1924 in Chicago. She worked as an employee at a Rolling Meadows drug store. She was the wife of Robert J., Sr.; mother of Pamela (Roger) Seely; Cynthia (Wayne) Berthiaume, Debra (Raymond) Schoenherr, Robert J. Jr. (Robin) and Paula (Nick) Sanchez; grandmother of 11 and the late Blake Parotto; great-grandmother of Brandon Naylor. Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 13 at Meadows Funeral Home, Rolling Meadows.

Richard C. Pflanz

Richard C. Pflanz, 79, of Rolling Meadows, died Feb. 6 at Manor Care of Rolling Meadows. He was born May 12, 1930, in Chicago. A veteran of the Korean Conflict, he worked in construction for many years. He was the husband of Patricia; grandfather of 12; great-grandfather of one. Funeral services were held Wednesday, Feb. 10 at Meadows Funeral Home, Rolling Meadows.

Valeria Piwko

A funeral service for Valeria Piwko of Niles, 91, was held Friday, Feb. 5 at St. John Brebeuf Church in Niles. She was born Dec. 20, 1918 in Chicago. She passed away Saturday, Jan. 30 in her home. She is survived by her sons, Ralph, Kenneth, and Gary. Mrs. Piwko was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph.

Violet H. Rank (nee Petzke), 90, of Arlington Hts., died Feb. 6 at the Lutheran Home. She was born Sept. 5, 1919 in Chicago. She was the wife of the late Kenneth A.; mother of Kenneth A. Jr. (Ruth); Judy Fornero and Linda R. (Mark) Roscoe; grandmother of six; great grandmother of eight. Funeral services were Friday, Feb. 12 at the Lutheran Home, Arlington Hts.

Bonnie Raymond

Bonnie Raymond was born Sept. 4, 1953. She died on Monday, Feb. 1 at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Hts. A funeral service for Helen Scherer of Park Ridge, 90, was held Tuesday, Feb. 16 at St. Paul of the Cross Church in Park Ridge. She was born Nov. 18, 1919. She passed away Thursday, Feb. 11. She is survived by her husband, Ralph. Mrs. Scherer was preceded in death by her siblings, Jeanette and Arthur.

A funeral service for Elizabeth Stephens of Buffalo Grove, 81, was held Tuesday, Feb. 16 at Kolssak Funeral Home in Wheeling. She was born Oct. 14, 1928. She passed away Thursday, Feb. 11. She is survived by her children, Linda (Gary) Belfield and Judy Sarna; and grandchildren, Susan (Mark) Rydberg, Sandy Belfield, and Patrick Sarna. Mrs. Stephens was preceded in death by her husband, Ivan.

A funeral Mass for Ann Swoch (nee Walen), 89, took place Wednesday, Feb. 10 at St. Colette Church. Interment was at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery. Visitation was Tuesday, Feb. 9 at Meadows Funeral Home in Rolling Meadows. Mrs. Swoch was born on July 22, 1920 in Chicago. She died on Feb. 6, 2010 at her home. Her husband Harold preceded her in death. Her children Donna (Jack) Pauly, and Donald and David (Judy) Swoch survive her.

Reuben Carl Thorpe

Of Arlington Hts.

Reuben Carl Thorpe was born Dec. 13, 1939 in Stephenson, Michigan. He died on Feb. 9 in Arlington Hts. He worked as a superintendent at Chicagoland Paving and a project manager for Saratoga Homes and Joe Keim Land Corporation. He is survived by his wife, Connie Thorpe; his children, Joanne (Terry) Ruch and Jeffrey Thorpe; his grandchildren, Anna, Abby and Phillip Ruch; his siblings, Roger (Eileen) Thorpe, Don (Dolores) Thorpe and Lorraine (Cordell) Wellman. A memorial service was held Sunday, Feb. 14 at Northwest Covenant Church, Mt. Prospect. Interment was private.

Helen Willeumier

Of Park Ridge

A funeral service for Helen Willeumier of Park Ridge, 95, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 20 at the First United Methodist Church, 418 W. Touhy Ave., Park Ridge. She is survived by her son, Robert Willeumierl; and granddaughter, Kristen Willeumier. Mrs. Willeumier was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel.
