Stanislaw Bacik, 82, of Des Plaines, died on Sunday, Mar. 29 at Glenview Terrace Nursing Home. He was born on Feb. 18, 1927 in Poland and was a business owner in the food industry. Visitation took place at Skaja Terrace Funeral Home on Friday, Apr. 3 followed by services at Skaja and St. Hyacinth Basilica on Saturday, Apr. 4. Burial in Maryhill Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Helena Bacik; daughters, Irena (Andrtzej) Domanski, Krystyna (Karol) Renau; sons Wojciech Bacik and Piotr (Malgorzata) Bacik; grandchildren, Krzysztof, Michal, Angie, Renee and Jackie.

Bettie L. Carlson, 78, of Mt. Prospect died on Apr. 9. She was born Sept. 19, 1930 in Versailles, Missouri. She served as president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Mt. Prospect VFW. Services were held Tuesday, Apr. 14 at Friedrichs Funeral Home in Mt. Prospect. Wife of John F. Carlson; mother of Scott (Leanne) and Randy (Lynn) Carlson; grandmother of Jamie, Jeremy (Amy), Jodi, Johnny and Jimmy, great grandmother and sister.

Hillman, Jr.; mother of Philip (Carolyn) Hillman and Robert (Tracy) Hillman; loving grandmother of Adam, Matthew, Zachary and Alyssa Hillman and sister of William J. (Jane) Collier.

Patricia C. Hoeg of Mt. Prospect, 76, died on April 6. Wife of Donald F. Hoeg, mother of Thomas Edward (Renee) Hoeg, Robert Francis Hoeg, Donald John (Janet) Hoeg, Mary Beth (John) Gatsakos and Susan Catherine Hoeg; loving grandmother and sister. Born Apr. 22, 1932 in Brooklyn, NY, she devoted her life as a member and fundraiser for the Clearbrook Guardians. Visitation was Tuesday, Apr. 14 at Friedrichs Funeral Home in Mt. Prospect. Mass was held at St. Raymond DePenafort Church in Mt. Prospect. Entombment in All Saints Mausoleum.
Jack F. Hughes

Jack F. Hughes, 71, of Niles, passed away Tuesday, Apr. 7. He was born on Aug. 9, 1937 in Fort Huron, Michigan, the son of Albert and Frances Hughes. Hughes owned and operated U.S. Fire & Safety Equipment Co. in Chicago. He was a veteran and served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves. He is survived by his wife, Jeanette; children, Billy, Bobby Tucker and Phyllis Benton; five grandchildren and his brother, William (Juanita) Hughes. Services were held Saturday, Apr. 11 in Northwest Bible Baptist Church, Elgin. Burial with honors followed in Bluff City Cemetery in Elgin.

Irma K. Jacobsen, 98, of Elk Grove Village, died Apr. 13 at Alexian Brothers Medical Center. She was born Mar. 14, 1911 in Chicago and was the wife of the late Richard Jacobsen. Mother of Lance (Debra) Jacobsen and Kathy Lamberty. Sister of Lillian Nix. Ms. Jacobsen is preceded in death by one brother and five sisters. Visitation was held Friday, Apr. 17 at Meadows Funeral Home in Rolling Meadows followed by services at Faith Lutheran Church in Arlington Hts. Interment at Irving Park Cemetery, Chicago.

Paul J. Kruczinski, 82, of Niles, died Friday, Mar. 27, at Forest Villa Nursing and Rehab. Visitation took place at Skaja Terrace Funeral Home on Friday, Apr. 3 followed by services Saturday, Apr. 4. Burial in Maryhill Cemetery. He was born on Oct. 22, 1926 in Chicago and was a Wholesale Sundry vice president. He served in the Navy. Mr. Kruczinski is survived by his wife, Ruth; son, Fredric (Susan) Kruczinski; grandchildren James and Laura Kruczinski and brother Jack (Josephine) Luscombe.

Husband of Marilynn; father of Terry Martini, Cathleen (Patrick) Reilly, Mary Ellen (Robert) Zamost, Robert (Kathleen) Martini; grandfather of Kevin (Joanna), Jamie, Daniel, Amanda, Brendan, Danielle, Katelyn, Caroline; fond brother and uncle to many. Son of the late Peter M. and Helen Martini. Visitation was held Monday, Apr. 13 at Glueckert Funeral Home in Arlington Hts. Prayers were said Tuesday at the funeral home before moving to St. Mary Catholic Parish in Buffalo Grove for mass. Interment was in St. Mary Catholic Parish Cemetery.

Entombment was in All Saints Mausoleum. Born Aug. 21, 1913, in New York City, N.Y., she died Thursday, Apr. 9, at home in Des Plaines. She was a retired secretary for Centel, and was a member of the Orphan Train Society. Wife of the late Joseph E. Mittler; mother of Mary L. and Lorraine (Branden) Blackler; grandmother and great-grandmother.

Kevin C. Pietrucha, 50, of Port Barrington, died Apr. 8 at Condell Memorial Center, Libertyville. Born Dec. 14, 1958, he worked in construction for many years. Husband of Lynn (nee Davis). Brother of Richard (Linda). Jeff (Paula) of Palatine; son of the late Walter Pietrucha, Jr. and Carol (Robert) Berry. Funeral service and interment were private. Meadows Funeral Home handled arrangements.
Lawrence Risom
Of Elk Grove Village
A memorial service for Lawrence Risom, 86, was held Saturday, Apr. 11, at Sunrise Assisted Living in Schaumburg. Burial will be at a later date in Acacia Park Cemetery. Born Oct. 2, 1922 in Chicago, he passed away on Apr. 2 after a four-week stay in Alexian Brothers Hospital. He is survived by his sister Anna Thompson, several cousins, including Ray (JoAnn) Clow of Prospect Hts. In the Army Air Force he was a heavy truck driver and radio repairman serving in New Guinea, Northern Solomons and the southern Philippines liberation. He was a Western Electric electrical engineer before retirement.

Helen M. Sertterh, 92, of Niles died on Wednesday, Apr. 8 at home. She was born Sept. 22, 1916 in Chicago and was a comptometer operator before retirement. Services were held Saturday, Apr. 11 at Skaja Terrace Funeral Home. Mrs. Sertterh is survived by her daughter, Carol (Michael) Power; grandchildren, Leslie Power, Kristi Power. She is also survived by her sisters, brother, great-grandchildren and friend Charles Raymon.
James L. Smith

The mass and Christian burial of Jim Smith, 72, was held Thursday, Apr. 2 at St. Raymond de Penafort Church, Mt. Prospect. Interment was private. Born Sept. 29, 1936, Mr. Smith passed away Thursday, Mar. 26, following complications from diabetes. After high school, he enlisted in the Navy, assigned to the U.S.S. Kearsarge aircraft carrier. He was active at St. Raymond, serving on the parish council. He received a Mt. Prospect Shining Star award for organizing the Pine-Wille Marching Kazoo Irregulars, a kazoo-playing band and popular entry in the village's Fourth of July parade for three decades. The husband of Pat, he always supported her many volunteer opportunities. Father of Drew (Lisa) of Arlington Hts., Scot (Mary) of Palatine, Paul (Denise) of Berkeley and Mark (Jennifer) of Arlington Hts. Grandfather of Ian, Audie, Moira, Alec, Paige, Caroline, Lochlan, Seamus, Mirin and Keegan. Brother of the late Betty McDermott (Jack); brother-in-law of Nancy Kost (Peter). Uncle of Christy Ausmus, Mike Kost and many cousins.

A funeral mass for Daniel B. (Dale) Starzyk, 77, a trucking company owner from Mt. Prospect, was celebrated in St. Thomas Becket Church on Apr. 4. Interment followed in All Saints Cemetery. Arrangements were made by Friedrichs Funeral Home. A native of Chicago, he died Mar. 31 in Glenview. A graduate of DePaul Academy and DePaul University, he was an Army veteran and owner of Star Trucking. Surviving are his widow, Cecile Marie; children Jeanne Scheffler, Carol Lynn (Andy) Norman, Danny (Jacquie), Joanne (John) Sanford, Mary Jo (Jacob) Mount, and Andrew; and grandchildren Brett, Bradley, Lauren, Alex, Krista, Jessica, Ryan, Dylan, and Braden.

A funeral service for Dorothy L. Swanson (nee Patterson), 77, took place Thursday, Apr. 16 at Grove Memorial Chapel in Elk Grove Village. Interment will be at Skyline Memorial Park in Monee. She was born in Evanston. She died on Apr. 12, 2009 at St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates. Her husband James R. preceded her in death. Her children Daniel D. (fiancée, Amy) Swanson, Donna L. (Tim) Fuller, and Denise E. (Tony) Caruso survive her.
