Visitation for Gregg J. Barsanti, 58, was from noon until the time of services at 4 p.m. Saturday, Mar. 21 at Friedrichs Funeral Home, Mt. Prospect. Born Feb. 13, 1951, in Chicago, he died suddenly Tuesday, Mar. 17, at home. He was a writer and former editor of the Carbondale Magazine. He was the husband of Patricia; brother of Ritaclare (Rick) Elwart, Norm (Viv) Barsanti; Jariath (Neil) Jacobs, Carl Barsanti, Bruce (Trish Elliott) Barsanti and Michael Barsanti; uncle and great-uncle to many.

H. Gordon Bethards

Of Park Ridge

H. Gordon Bethards, 90, of Park Ridge, passed away Mar. 19 at the Rainbow Hospice Ark, Park Ridge. He was born Aug. 8, 1918 in Wilmington, Delaware. Preceded in death by his wife, Madeleine. Father of Martine (Daniel) Salter and Philip Bethards, Michelle (John Jr.) Simms and the late Marc Bethards; grandfather of Melaine Salter, John III, Spencer,  Michael and Madeleine Simms; brother of Elizabeth Kehoe. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Funeral service was held Saturday, Mar. 28, from Ryan-Parke Funeral Home, Park Ridge, to St. Paul of the Cross Church. Interment in Town of Maine Cemetery.

Bernard F. Crowley

Of Elk Grove Village

A funeral service for Bernard F. Crowley, 82, of Elk Grove Village, was held Saturday, Mar. 28, at St. Julian Eymard Church. Visitation took place prior to the service at Grove Memorial Chapel. Interment was at All Saints Cemetery. Mr. Crowley was born in Oak Park and was a veteran of the Navy. He is survived by wife Colleen, children Thomas (Stella), Michael and James (Eun-Joo Kwak) Crowley, Ann (Peter) Tumminaro, Jane Griffin and Nancy (Thomas) Loos, grandchildren Matthew, Alexander and Joseph Tumminaro, Katherine and Emily Griffin and Annabelle Crowley.

Alice S. Ekstrom

Of Elk Grove Village

Family and friends of Alice S. Ekstrom, 80, gathered Monday, Mar. 23, at Queen of the Rosary Church, Elk Grove Village, for a funeral mass. Interment was in St. Michael, the Archangel Cemetery, Palatine. Visitation was Sunday, Mar. 22, at Lauterburg & Oehler Funeral Home, Arlington Hts. Born Feb. 4, 1929, in Chicago, she died peacefully at her residence Tuesday, Mar. 17, surrounded by her family. Mrs. Ekstrom was known affectionately as "Sarge." She taught junior high math in School Dist. 59 for 35 years. She was the wife of Theodore "Ted" Ekstrom; mother of Ann E. (Peter) Feeham of Arlington Hts., Catherine (Richard) Humanski of Park Ridge, and the late Edward T. Ekstrom; grandmother of Katie, Jim, Patrick, Brian, Laura, Colin, Kara, and the late Mary Elizabeth; sister of Lois Ward, George (Kathleen Sullivan Stewart) Stewart and the late Wilma Nielsen.

Joseph E. Gallagher

Of Palatine

A funeral service for Joseph E., Gallagher, 85, was held Saturday, Mar. 14 at Ahlgrim Family Funeral Home, Palatine. Interment was in St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery, Palatine. Mr. Gallagher was a World War II Navy veteran. He was the husband of Lorraine G. Gallagher; father of William (Deborah), Daniel (Ann) and the late Richard Scott Gallagher, and the grandfather of Erin, Kenton (Brandy), Patrick (Megan), Keri, Sean, James (Alison), Jeffrey (Heather), Amy (Gail Perry) and Jonathan Gallagher, and great-grandfather of Lindsey, Lauren, Megan, Caleb and Simon Gallagher.

Norman Gawlik

Of Elk Grove Village

A funeral service for Norman Gawlik, 77, formerly of Chicago, was held Friday, Mar. 27 at Grove Memorial Chapel, Elk Grove Village, proceeding to a 10 a.m. mass at St. Julian Eymard Church, Elk Grove Village. Visitation was Thursday, at the funeral chapel. Mr. Gawlik was born in Chicago. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was the husband of Arlene (nee Zolna) for 53 years; father of Brian (Cindy), John (Helen) and Lawrence Gawlik, Barbara Howard, Laura (Michael) Doetsch and Christine Pernice; and grandfather of Jason, Liz, Stephy, Susie, Adam, Jileena, Richie, Samantha, Amy, Michelle, Jeremy, Jonathan and Jessica, and great-grandfather of Luke.

Dominic J. Grimaldi

School engineer

A funeral mass for Dominic J. Grimaldi, 87, of Rolling Meadows, was celebrated Mar. 28 in St. Theresa Church, Palatine. Burial followed in St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery. Arrangements were by Meadows Funeral Home. A native of Chicago, he died Mar. 25 in Northwest Community Hospital. He worked for High School District 211 as an engineer for more than 20 years. Surviving are children Karen Shaner and Linda (Josephj) Hermann; and grandchildren Adam and Natalie Shaner and Nicole Hermann.

Diane M. James

Of Rolling Meadows

Diane M. James (nee Szatowski), 69, of Rolling Meadows died Mar. 23 at Northwest Community Hospital, Arlington Hts. She was born Jan. 18, 1940 in Chicago. She was a secretary for many years. The wife of the late Alston. Memorial visitation is set for Wednesday, Apr. 1, noon until the time of service, 1 p.m. at Meadows Funeral Home in Rolling Meadows. Urnment at St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery.

William F. Koeppl

Of Palatine

William F. Koeppl, of Palatine, died on Mar. 14. Visitation was on Friday, Mar. 20, at Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home in Palatine. Funeral service was on Saturday, Mar. 21, from Smith-Corcoran to St. Theresa Catholic Church for mass at 10 a.m. Burial was in Windridge Cemetery. He was preceded in death by his late wife, Jennie. Mr. Koeppl is survived by his children, Veronica (James) Scott, James (Yvonne) Koeppl, Linda Kelly, Carl (Elizabeth) Koeppl and Susan (Gary) Witt; grandchildren, Pam, James, David, Laura, Bill, Josef, Hannah, Jordan, Jenni, Paige, William, Elizabeth, Stanley, Jeremy, Alex and Bailey; great-grandchildren, Lesley, Zachery, Bree, Rebecca, Nina, Alexa, Nicole, Taylor, Morgan and Ethan.

Louis F. Lachman

Of Niles

Louis F. Lachman, 88, of Niles, died Sunday, Mar. 22 at Central Baptist Nursing Home. Mr. Lachman was born on Mar. 24, 1920 in Chicago and was a mechanic for International Harvester. He served in the Army. Visitation was at Skaja Terrace Funeral Home on Thursday, Mar. 26 with services on Friday at Skaja Terrace and St. Juliana Church. Burial in St. Adalbert Cemetery, Niles. He is preceded in death by his parents Anton and Julia Lachman; daughter, Cynthia Lachman; brothers Steve Lachman and Anton Lachman and sister, Julleann. He is survived by his nephew, David Lachman; brothers Alex Lachman, Frank (Mary Ann) Lachman, John Lachman Sr., and was the uncle of many.

Phyllis Manola

Of Palatine

Phyllis Manola (nee Angelico), 86, of Palatine, died on Mar. 18. She was born Mar. 28, 1922 in Chicago. Visitation was on Friday, Mar. 20, at Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home in Palatine. Prayers began at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Mar. 21, at the funeral home and proceeded to St. Theresa Church for Mass at 11:30 a.m. Burial was in Mt. Carmel Cemetery. She was the wife of the late Vito Manola, Sr. She is survived by her children, Vito (Gina) Manola, Jr. and Mary Lou Manola; grandmother of Ross Caruso, Anthony (Jackie), Dominic, Vito and Angelina Manola and great-grandmother of Grace Michele Manola, aunt of many nieces and nephews.

Barbara A. Milewski

Of Rolling Meadows

Barbara A. Milewski, 74, of Rolling Meadows, died Mar. 20 at home. Born Sept. 11, 1943 in Chicago, she worked as a nurse for many years. She was the wife of the late Leonard; mother of Robert (Onna), Pam (Kenneth) Grayer, Diane (Jim) Boler and Tim (Ljiljana); grandmother of seven; great grandmother of one; sister of Judith Pahl and Jeanne Fischer. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Walter J. Pryzbyla

Of Des Plaines

Walter J. Pryzbyla, 88, of Des Plaines, formerly of Chicago and Florida, died Mar. 8.

He was born in Chicago on Oct. 2, 1920, the son of the late Michael and Julia Pryzbyla. He is survived by his wife, Marie L. and his daughters, Gerry (Joe) Piskorski of Des Plaines, Marilyn (Clyde) Werner of Park Ridge and Joanne Pryzbyla of Florida. Mr. Pryzbyla was former treasurer of Revere Electric Supply Co. He was a devoted family man, an avid golfer and loved camping. Memorial Mass will be held at St. Mary's Church in Des Plaines on Wednesday, Apr. 8, at 11 a.m. Arrangements will be handled by Severino's River Woods Funeral Chapels.

Charlotte Eva Ramsey

Of Des Plaines

Charlotte Eva Ramsey, 98, of Des Plaines, died on Mar. 13. Mrs. Ramsey was born Mar. 10, 1911 in Park Ridge. She was a Des Plaines resident for 60 years, a homemaker and "credit investigator" for DP Credit Bureau. Visitation was private at Oehler Funeral Home, Des Plaines Chapel. There was a graveside service and burial Thursday, Mar. 19 at Town of Maine Cemetery in Park Ridge. She was the wife of the late Sidney Frederick Ramsey; mother of Patricia Anne (Bruce) Thoms, James Frederick (June) Ramsey; grandmother of James Derek (Ashley) Ramsey; David Justin (Carly) Ramsey; great-grandmother  of Morgan Elizabeth Ramsey; Matthew Alexander Ramsey and Reese Melodee Ramsey and aunt of many nieces and nephews.

Loving grandfather

Charles J. "Chuck" Sauer died on Mar. 21. Husband of the late Eleanor Sauer; father of Cathy Sauer (Tom) McQuillian, Charlie (Kath) Sauer, Mary Ellen Sauer (Mark) Chamberlain, Nancy Sauer Kissinger, John (Mary Beth) Sauer, Michael (Lori) Sauer and the late Robert Sauer; grandfather of Erin, Colin (Susie) and Kyle Sauer; Lisa, Amy, Julie and Heidi Chamberlain; Kelly and Brian Kissinger; Jonathon and Michael Sauer; Jennifer, Michael Jr. and James Sauer; twin bother, Bill (the late Jean) Sauer and Marie (the late Gener) Ripke. Visitation was Thursday, Mar. 26, at Friedrichs Funeral Home, Mt. Prospect. Funeral was held Friday, Mar. 27 from the funeral home to St. James Church. Interment in St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery.

Raymond E. Schleich

Of Elk Grove Village

Raymond E. Schleich, 54, a 30-year resident of Elk Grove Village, died Mar. 13 at Alexian Brothers Medical Center. He was born in Chicago and was a 36-year employee of AT&T as a fiber optic technician. He was also a 7-year member of the Palatine Hogs. Funeral service was Wednesday, Mar. 18 at Grove Memorial Chapel, Elk Grove Village. Interment was in St. Joseph Cemetery, River Grove. He is survived by his wife of nine years, Monika L.; children, Krystle A. and Ryan R.; stepson, Erik R. Johnson (Jenna); brother-in-law of John A. Johnston; grandchildren Gabrielle and Magnus Johnson. He was preceded in death by his late wife, Theresa A.

Louise Siragusa

Of Des Plaines

Louise Siragusa, 95, of Des Plaines, formerly of Lake Worth, Florida, died Mar. 9 in Des Plaines. She was born Feb. 27, 1914 in Tarboro, NC. She was a homemaker and received a nursing degree. Visitation was Mar. 13 at Oehler Funeral Home in Des Plaines. Funeral service was Friday, Mar. 13 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Des Plaines. Interment was in St. Mary Cemetery, Buffalo Grove. She is survived by her sons, John (Carole) Siragusa, Charles (Mihaela) Siragusa; grandchildren Lauren (Marty) Maloney, Jill (Jeff) Stonecliff; great grandchildren, Ryan, Mary, Conor Martin, Fiona Margaret, Timothy John, Charles Logan, Cameron Reece, Jack Harrison and John Parker. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Frances Wagner and Ruth Flowers and brother Edward McDowell.

Dorothy M. Tessendorf

Of Elk Grove Village

A funeral service for Dorothy M. Tessendorf, 84, of Elk Grove Village, was held Saturday, Mar. 28 at Queen of the Rosary Church. Visitation took place Friday, Mar. 27, at Lauterburg & Oehler Funeral Home. Interment was in All Saints Cemetery. Ms. Tessendorf was born Oct. 22, 1924 in Chicago. She passed away Monday, Mar. 23, at Brighton Gardens in Prospect Hts. She is preceded in death by husband Roy, son Gary and sister Irene (late Michael) Sica. She is survived by daughter Janice (Steve) Kante, nieces and nephews Susan (James) Snow, Gayle (Phil) Schuman, Joseph (Brenda) Sica, Patricia (Jon) Klingbiel, Michele (Chuck) O'Connell, Donna (Keith) Redding and many great nieces and nephews.

Richard E. Thompson

Of Des Plaines

Richard E. Thompson, 70, a life-long Des Plaines resident, died on Mar. 10 in Park Ridge. Mr. Thompson was born on July 15, 1938. He was a graduate of Elmhurst College, a very active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and was retired from General Telephone. Visitation was on Friday, Mar. 13, at G. L. Hills Funeral Home in Des Plaines. He lied in state from 10 to 11 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Des Plaines. Funeral services were Saturday, Mar. 14. Interment in Memory Garden Cemetery, Arlington Hts. He is survived by his spouse of 49 years, Carol; mother-in-law, Laura Mehlhop; daughters, Susan Campbell and Andrea Thompson; grandchildren, Todd and Amanda; brothers Glenn (Mary) Thompson and Kenneth (Ann) Thompson; sister, Barbara (Gus) Feenstra.

Pauline Volpe

Of Niles

A funeral mass for Pauline Volpe, 90, took place Monday, Mar. 30 at St. Andrew Life Center in Niles. Interment was All Saints Cemetery in Des Plaines. Visitation preceded the Mass. Mrs. Volpe was born on May 23, 1918 in Hugo, Colo. She died on Mar. 26, 2009 at St. Andrew Life Center. Her husband Michael D. preceded her in death. Her daughter Barbara J. (Kevin A.) Ceurvorst survives her.

Stephen R. Usilton

Of Elk Grove Village

Stephen R. Usilton, 54, of Elk Grove Village, died suddenly on Mar. 17. Visitation was Saturday, Mar. 21 at Grove Memorial Chapel in Elk Grove Village. Funeral service was Sunday, Mar. 22 at 1 p.m. at Grove Memorial Chapel. Interment was private. He was born in Baltimore, Maryland, and was employed in the I.T. Dept. of the City of Rolling Meadows for nine years. He was also a member of the Illinois Camaro Club and Summer Nights Car Club. Mr. Usilton was preceded in death by his father Thomas Usilton. He is survived by his wife of 28-years, Becky; daughter, Lindsey Marie; mother, Emilia; mother and father-in-law, Marjorie and Charles Mitchell of Elk Grove Village; brother of Thomas (Valerie) Usilton and brother-in-law Jeff and Maggie Mitchell; he was the uncle of Jake, Zachary, Kelly and Michael.

Susan E. Waldbillig

Of Rolling Meadows

Susan E., Waldbillig McClintock, 56, of Rolling Meadows died Mar. 21 at Alexian Brothers Medical Center, Elk Grove Village. Born Feb. 17, 1953 in Evanston, she was vice president for the Reef Corp. in Chicago for over 10 years.  She was the wife of Joseph McClintock, mother of Christiana and Zachary Waldbillig; daughter of Victoria and the late John Engelking; sister of Dale and John (Susan) Engelking. Visitation was Wednesday, Mar. 25, at the Meadows Funeral Home in Rolling Meadows where services were held on Thursday. Interment was in Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Flemme Mae Zagone

Of Niles

Flemme Mae Zagone, 85, of Niles died Tuesday, Mar. 17 in her home. Born Aug. 22, 1923 in Chicago, she was a Chicago Public School teacher. Visitation was at Simkins Funeral Home on Friday, Mar. 20. Arrangements made by Skaja Terrace Funeral Home. Service was at Simkins and St. John Brebeuf Church on Saturday, Mar. 21. She will be laid to rest at All Saints Mausoleum. Preceded in death by her parents, Anthony and Caroline Giancola and husband, Anthony Zagone. Survivors include her son, Anthony (Valerie) Zagone; grandchildren, Nicole and Danielle; sisters Mary Lou and Rose Marie; brother Ronald (Joan) Glancola; nephews, Mark, Paul, Nick and nieces Mary Beth, Theresa and Joanne.
