A funeral service and visitation for Lillian A. "Lil" Banner (nee Loyland), 99, resident of Morton Grove for 53 years, took place yesterday at Oehler Funeral Home in Des Plaines. Interment was private. Mrs. Banner was born Dec. 12, 1907 in Thief River Falls, Minn. She was very active at St. Luke's Christian Community Church of Morton Grove and the Norwegian Women's Club in Chicago. She also loved playing cards at the Morton Grove Senior Center. She passed away Monday, Jan. 15 at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Hts. She is preceded in death by her husband, William J. Banner. She is survived by her sons Thomas J. (Joan) Banner and Michael W. Banner, both retired local police officers (Morton Grove and Des Plaines, respectively), her sister Amber Walker, her grandchildren James Banner, Thomas (Jessie) Banner, Jeffrey Friend, and Kimberlee Banner, and two great grandchildren.

ELEANOR CURCURO Of Niles

A funeral service for Charles W. "Chuck" Little Sr., 62, of Kenosha, formerly of Des Plaines, was held on Thursday, Jan. 18 at Oehler Funeral Home with Deacon John F. Lorbach presiding. A funeral service for Thaddeus R. "Ted" Marcyan, 81, was held on Saturday, Dec. 30 at Our Lady of The Brook Church. He worked as a traffic engineer for the City of Chicago in the 50's and 60's and was a engineer for the Illinois Commerce Commission and national executive utilities engineer for Montgomery Ward and Co. In the mid 70's, he was appointed to the Northbrook Illinois Zoning Board of Appeals and Planning Commission. He finished his career as program manager for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps V-12 program during WWII and was later a pilot in the U.S. Air Force. His interests included archeology, genealogy, astronomy, carpentry, woodworking, and electronics. Mr. Marcyan is survived by his wife Helen N., children Carlton (Ana) and Christopher, grandchildren Maggie, Colt and Baron and sister Sophie Pietras.

SIGMUND RUBINKOWSKI Of Rolling Meadows Veteran of World War II

A funeral service for Sigmund Rubinkowski, 84, was held on Monday, Jan. 22, at St. Mary of the Angels Church in Chicago. Mr. Rubinkowski was born on Feb. 9, 1922 in Chicago. He died Thursday, Jan. 18, at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights. He was a model maker and supervisor for Tele Type Corp. for many years. He was also a World War II veteran, serving in the navy, as well as a member of the American Legion Post 923. Mr. Rubinkowski was a member of the St. Colette Church, Rolling Meadows Senior Center, and the Telephone Pioneer. He collected money for the start of Northwest Community Hospital. MATTHEW W. SLOWIK of Des Plaines First Lt. in U.S. Army

A funeral procession for Matthew W. Slowik, 85, of Des Plaines took place Monday, Jan. 22, from Skaja Terrace Funeral Home in Niles to St. Hyacinth Church for Mass. Visitation was Sunday. Mr. Slowik was born July 27, 1921 in Chicago. He attended DePaul and Loyola universities. For four years beginning in 1942 he was First Lieutenant in the United States Army (24th Div.). During his tenure in the military, he earned four battle stars and a cornucopia of other service and victory medals. He served faithfully from 1942 to 1952. He entered politics in 1952, joining the 35th Ward Regular Republican Organization as precinct captain. He held elected positions in the 35th ward throughout most of the 1960's, and was elected Delegate to the Republican National Convention at Chicago in 1960 and at Miami in 1968. He was also candidate or active member in copious Republican organizations. From the 1950's until the 1980's he balanced his political career with a successful entrepreneurial and business career. He was owner and partner of Slowik Realty and Slowik Family Restaurant and Banquet Hall, and also served as Director of Parkview Savings and Loan Assn. He was appointed in 1956 as Assistant Superintendent of the Illinois Women's and Children's Div. Dept. of Labor. He was an appointed investigator for the Illinois Dept. of Registration and Education until he retired in 1983. Mr. Slowik was active in a number of fraternal and civic organizations, including AmVets, Knights of Columbus, Polish-American Political League and Businessmen's Club, Who's Who in the Midwest, American Red Cross, American Cancer Society, and Boy Scouts of America. The lifelong White Sox fan passed away Friday, Jan. 18. He is preceded in death by his beloved brothers John (Agnes) Slowik and William (Frances) Slowik. He is survived by his loving nieces Theresa (Donald) Blasi, Mary (Louis) Gonzales, Claudia (Jerry) Giannini, Agnes (Steven) Hipwell, and Vincent, his dear grand niece Holli Hipwell, Victoria Giannini, Joseph Blasi, and Scott Hipwell, and dear friends Jennie Siedlecki and Lukasz Kaczmarski.

SAMUEL THOMPSON Of Des Plaines Veteran of World War II

A memorial service for Samuel R. Thompson, 83, was held on Thursday, Dec. 28, at Oehlers Funeral Home in Des Plaines. Mr. Thompson was borin on Dec. 15, 1923 in Ohio. He died on Friday, Dec. 22, after suffering from Alzheimer's disease. He came to Chicago at the age of 25 after serving in World War II. He worked as a cook at the Sugar Bowl under the restaurant's original owners. Mr. Thompson is preceded in death by his wife Virginia "Ruth" (nee Hallgrimson). He was survived by his children Patricia (Joe) Giallombardo, Samuel Thompson, Ruth (Jerry) Shugart, and his grandchildren Amanda and Joseph Giallombardo.
