Mother, grandmother
Marian S. Bergquist of Des Plaines died Friday, Sept. 8 at 84.
She married the late G. William, and they raised Phyllis (Donald) Ross, Mark (Betsy) and Corrine (Robert) Bachar.
She is also survived by her grandchildren, Greta, Phillip, Siri, Daniel, Ellen and Peter.
Visitation was Thursday, Sept. 14 at Nelson Funeral Home, 820 Talcott Road in Park Ridge. Her funeral began at 10 a.m. today (Friday) at First Presbyterian Church of Des Plaines, 1755 E. Howard. Mrs. Bergquist will be buried at Memorial Park Cemetery.

A funeral service for Lillian R.
Carlson (nee Muka), 89, took place
on Thursday, Sept. 7, at Grove
Memorial Chapel in Elk Grove
Village. Inurnment was private at
Acacia Park Mausoleum in Chicago.
Visitation preceded the service.
Mrs. Carlson was born in Chicago,
lived in Rolling Meadows
for 25 years, and moved to
Lindenhurst eight years ago. She
was a charter member of the Community
Church of Rolling Meadows
and a member of the Order of
Eastern Star at the Arlington
Heights Masonic Lodge. She died
on Sept. 4, 2006, at Victory Memorial
Hospital East in Waukegan.
Her husband Harold F. and her
son Robert A. (JoAnn) Carlson
preceded her in death.
She is survived by her children
Donald L. (Wilma J.) Carlson and
Karen A. (James) Prickett; her
brothers John (June) and Leon
Muka; her grandchildren Donald
L. Jr. (Debra), Jeffery T. (Erin),
Patricia S. and Brian R. Carlson,

(Katie) Kalinowicz, Julie L. (Joseph)
Amore and James W.
Prickett; and 13 great-grandchildren.

A funeral for Robert J.
Christiansen, 82, took place on
Friday, Sept. 8, at the Skaja Terrace
Funeral Home in Niles. Visitation
was on Thursday, Sept. 7.
Mr Christiansen worked as a
bricklayer for many years and was
a member of Bricklayers Union
Lo. 21 for 57 years. He was an
army veteran and a member of the
American Legion and V.F.W.
He is survived by his wife
Eleanore; children Nancy
(Stephen) Karlov, Carol (Jim)
Pavlak, and Craig Christiansen;
brother Lowell (Barbara)
Christiansen; and sister Janet
Crowe.
PETER JAMES CLEARY
Loved the railroads
Peter James Cleary, 74, of Scottsdale, AZ, and formerly of Des Plaines, Illinois passed on September 6, 2006.
Services are private.
He is survived by his son, Richard, Daughter-in-law Jennifer, grandchildren Rene, James, Jana and Megan. He is also survived by his step-children Peter, Gretchen, Michael and Paul Ruhl and their immediate and extended families. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marion, daughter Cathy, parents Peter and Myrine Cleary and his brother Robert ³Duke² Cleary.
Too short a time was given to this gentle giant and he will be missed by all.
A life long railroad aficionado, donations can be made to the Chicago Northwestern Historical Society. Arrangements entrusted to Messinger Indian School Mortuary, Scottsdale, AZ.

Evans
Minister of care
Thomas J. Evans died Tuesday, Sept. 5 in his Des Plaines home. Born Aug. 22, 1924 in Chicago, he moved to Des Plaines in 1959.
He spent 58 years with his wife, Elaine (nee Kratky), and they raised Susan E. Evans and Kathy (Gerry) Tolzien. He was also survived by his grandchildren, Sarah, Nick and Jon.
He was preceded in death by four siblings. Mr. Evans was an employee of Honeywell.
Mass was celebrated Saturday, Sept. 9 at Stephen Church, where he long served as minister of care.

Kelly
Father and grandfather
James Robert Kelly died Aug. 31 at his Des Plaines home after a long illness. He was born July 28, 1939 in Chicago to the late Robert John and Mildred Kelly. His siblings were Daren (Dave) Sutherland and Linda Sak.
Devoted to his family, he also spent his time as a glazer in the glass industry.
He is survived by his daughters, Donna (Craig) Minkley and Colleen (Bernard) Hirschbine of Des Plaines; grandchildren Danielle, Teagan, Leanne, Connor, Ainslie, Victoria, Timothy, Alexis, Krysta, Vincent and Alyssa; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial services were Saturday, Sept. 9; interment was private.

Of Inverness
Born in Yugoslavia in 1911,
Magdalena (nee Janko)
Lambrecht, 95, passed away at
her daughter¹s home on Sept. 7,
surrounded by family. A visitation
for Mrs. Lambrecht was conducted
Friday, Sept. 8, at the
Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home,
Palatine. Funeral services began
at the funeral home on Saturday,
Sept. 9, and were followed by an
11 a.m. Mass at Holy Family
Church, Inverness. She was interred
at St. Michael the Archangel
Cemetery in Palatine.
Mrs. Lambrecht is survived by
her children Nikolaus (Elizabeth)
Lambrecht, Elizabeth (Andreas)
Marter, and Barbara (John) Felts.
She is also survived by eight grandchildren,
six great grandchildren,
and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service for Domenico Mangiardi, 96, of Niles, will take place on Saturday, Sept. 16 at Skaja Terrace Funeral Home in Niles at 9:15 a.m. and St. Paul of the Cross Church at 10 a.m. Entombment will be at All Saints Mausoleum. Visitation will be Friday, Sept. 15 at Skaja Terrace Funeral Home from 4 to 9 p.m.
Mr. Mangiardi was born on Mar. 30, 1910. He worked in publishing and died at Ballard Nursing Home on Saturday, Sept. 9.
His wife Maria Rosa, nee Rosi and his parents Bruno and Maria Concetta (nee Tucci) Mangiardi preceded him in death.
His children Concetta, Bruno (Amanda), Vito (Rebecca) and Rosalba Mangiardi; his grandchildren Paul Dominic Mangiardi, Adrean, Dominic, Jason, Justin, Adrianna, Catrina, Angelica and Mario; and his siblings Egidio (Maria) Mangiardi and Maria Ierulli survive him.

Meyers, 79, took place on Thursday,
Sept. 7, at St. Brebeuf Church
in Niles.
Visitation was Wednesday,
Sept. 6 at the Skaja Terrace Funeral
Home in Niles
Mr Meyers was a letter carrier
for the U.S. Post Office. He also
served in the army.
He is survived by his wife Rosemary
Meyers (nee Muno); children

Chrobak, Jan (Jeff) Perchess and
Jean (Frank) Doyle; grandchildren
Jamie, Michele and Matt; sister
Helen (Ted) Dutkanych and several
nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his

and Dick Meyers. He was the son
of the late John A. Meyers and the
late Marie Meyers (nee
Heckenbach).
Interment was at All Saints
Cemetery in Des Plaines. In lieu

L. Miller (nee Boubal), 60, formerly
of Rolling Meadows, will
be held tomorrow
(Thursday), at 10 a.m. in Rolling
Meadows Funeral Home .

funeral home, 3615 Kirchoff
Road.
She died Sept . 8 in St. Mary¹s
Hospital in Duluth, MN. She lived
in Deer River, Minnesota in recent
years.
Surviving are her husband,

Miller; her mother, Nessie

46 years in Elk Grove
Carl F. Peeper died Sept. 9, 2006
at Alexian Bros. Medical Center.
He was born 82 years ago in Arlington,
Wis.
Mr. Peeper spent his years with
IBEW Local 134, the Lions Club
of Elk Grove Village and the Elk
Grove Senior Center. He also spent
many with his wife, the late Ruth
H. (nee Homan).
He was preceded in death by a
brother, Earl. He is survived by a
son, Bruce A. (Nancie Boland)
and daughter, Donna Jean (Fred)
Lechowicz; brothers Vern (Ione),
George and William and sister
Pearl Anderson; grandchildren
Emily and Brian (Becky) Peeper
and great-grandchildren Aaron
and Jasmine.
Visitation is Wednesday, Sept.
13 at Grove Memorial Chapel in
Elk Grove Village. His funeral
will be Thursday, Sept. 14.

A funeral for Donald F. Sakalis,
78, took place on Saturday, Sept.
9, at the G.L. Hills Funeral Home
in Des Plaines.
Visitation was open shortly before
the service at G.L. Funeral
Home.
Mr Sakalis worked as a funeral
director for many years at
Weinstein. He was also a member
of the 773 local union. He is survived
by his wife of 55 years Rosemary;
children Donald (Paula)
Sakalis Jr., Jeffrey Sakalis, John
Sakalis, and Patrice (late John)
Piechur; grandchildren Christina,
Daniel, Dirk, Justin, Matthew, and
Michael; and great grandchild
Madison.
He was preceded in death by his
sister Sophie Best.
Interment was private. In lieu

Association and the American
Heart Association.

Des Plaines trucker
Visitation for Walter Slywka, a longtime Des Plaines resident, will be from 4-9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15 at Severino¹s River Woods Funeral Chapel, 205 S. River Road in Des Plaines. The funeral will begin at 10 a.m. the following day, with interment at Maryhill.
Born July 13, 1946 in Germany, Mr. Slywka died Sunday, Sept. 10. He was raised and educated in Chicago before beginning a career as a truck driver.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Diane L. (Sherman), son Joey, father Mykola and brother Michael.
He is survived by sons Bradley (Jenny) Garcia and Christopher; daughter Lynn (Robert) Karlsky; mother, Maria; eight grandchildren and another brother, George (Virginia) of Las Vegas.

Stojek, 60, took place on Thursday,
Aug. 31 at St. Constance
Church. Interment was at Maryhill
Cemetery. Visitation was on
Wednesday, Aug. 30, at Skaja
Terrace Funeral Home in Niles.
Mr. Stojek was born in Germany
on Feb. 28, 1946. He worked
as a manager in manufacturing
and died on Sunday, Aug. 27, 2006
at Resurrection Pavillion Nursing
Center. His mother, Helen Stojek
nee Robak, preceded him in death.
His father Marian Stojek and
his sister Elizabeth Stojak survive
him. Skaja Terrace Funeral Home
made funeral arrangements.

Mrs. Zarecki was born in Chicago
on Oct. 29, 1921. She worked
as a homemaker and died on Monday,
Sept. 4 in Park Ridge.
She was preceded in death by
her husband Joseph Zarecki; her
siblings Bruno Krzemien, Estelle
Rudnick, John (Rose) Krzemien,
Felicia Kopulos and Chester
(Victoria) Krzemienski; and her
parents Karl Krzemien and
Bernice (nee Trojan) Krzemien.
She is survived by her sister
Dorothy Daley, her nieces and
nephews and several great nieces
and nephews.
