    FRED F. BRAUN
    Carpenter

    Fred F. Braun, a Korean War and Army veteran and a retired teacher at Carpenter's Training Center in Elk Grove, passed away Feb. 2 at Alexian Bros. Medical Center. Mass was said Monday at Queen of the Rosary Church, followed by entombment at Queen of Heaven Mausoleum. Mr. Braun, 77, had been a resident of Elk Grove Village for 34 years. He belonged to the Carpenters Union Local #1027 of Chicago for 60 years, a member of the Lions Club and active in VFW Post #9284 in Elk Grove. Mr. Braun was preceded in death by wives Virginia T. (nee Bratek) and Kathy J. (nee Accardi). Surviving are son Fred F.; daughter Virginia M. (Leonard) Kloawa; and grandchildren Jack, Brian & Dan.

    WILLIAM CHAPEK
    Korean War Veteran From Elk Grove Village

    A funeral service for William J. Chapek, 75, took place on Tuesday, Feb. 7, at Grove Memorial Chapel. Visitation was also at Grove on Tuesday. Mr. Chapek was born in Racine, WI. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, stationed in Alaska. He worked as a P.E. teacher at Lincoln School in Park Ridge and Emerson School in Niles. He also coached basketball. In earlier years, he was the activities director at the Racine YMCA Camp Anakoji and a member of the Kilties Drum Corp. He died on Feb. 3 at Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leroy and Clara. He is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Ruth M. (nee Larson), his loving children Cathleen M. Chapek, Steven W. (Anna) Chapek, and Scott C. Chapek, and his sisters Shirley (Richard) Kizewic and Betty Hafemann. Funeral arrangements were made by Grove Memorial Chapel.

    WALTER GALL
    Of Morton Grove

    Walter Gall died Jan. 10 at the age of 81. He was born May 21, 1924 in Chicago. A World War II and Army veteran, Mr. Gall made his living as a plant superintendent. Visitation took place at Colonial-Wojciechowski Funeral Home in Niles, followed by a funeral at St. Isaac Jogues Church and St. Adalbert Mausoleum. Mr. Gall was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Elks Club and the American Legion. Preceding Mr. Gall in death were brother John (Irene) and brother-in-law Joseph (the late Stephanie) Marcichow. His wife of 56 years,Virginia (nee Marcichow) survives, as do brother Stanley (the late Lillian), brother-in-law Edward (Mary) and sister-in-law Sophie (the late Andrew).

    JAMES WALDON GUNDERSON
    Reported In Mt. Prospect

    James Waldon Gunderson passed away Jan. 24 after a long career in the newspaper business. He was born Dec. 5, 1933 in Colfax, Wi. Mr. Gunderson served as sports editor at the Daily Cardinal on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he earned a journalism degree. He worked as a sports editor, columnist, editorial page editor, production coordinator, production manager, general manager and publisher at a number of papers. He reported in Mt. Prospect, in addition to Colfax, Madison LaCrosse and Chippewa Falls, Wi.; Ottumwa, Ia.; Punta Gorda and Englewood, Fl.; and Sturgis, Mi. Mr. Gunderson was preceded in death by parents Gilbert and Josephine and brother A. Duane. Surviving are wife Joyce Allene; son Thomas James; daughter Mary Joyce Switzer; son-in-law James Russell Switzer; and daughter-in-law Yvonne Faith Gunderson. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in honor of James Gunderson with a note designating it for alzheimer's research to Suzanne Baker, Director of Development/Neurology, Emory University, 1841 Clifton Road, NE/Suite 212, Atlanta, Ga. 30329.

    FRANCES S. HARRY
    Of Rolling Meadows

    A funeral Mass for Frances S. Harry (nee Brush), 75, of Rolling Meadows was held Saturday (Feb. 4) in St. Colette Church, 3900 Meadow Dr., in Rolling Meadows at 10 a.m. Interment was private. Arrangements were by Meadows Funeral Home. Born in Chicago and a long-time resident of Rolling Meadows, she died Jan. 31 at her home. She had worked in food service for Rolling Meadows High School for over 20 years. Surviving are children Jacquelin (Eric) Wedell and Douglas (Frances) Harry; grandchildren Katlin, Christopher Wedell, Rosamarie and Dominic Harry. She was proceeded in death by her husband Allan and her sister, Grace Finedore.

    SOPHIE HOGLE
    Age 90

    Sophie Hogle of Rolling Meadows passed away Feb. 2 at her home. She was born Feb. 24, 1915 in Chicago. Preceded in death by sister Genevieve Shakon, Mrs. Hogle is survived by husband Harold; children Sandra (Steve) Gevurtz and Steve (Jeanette) Hogle; grandchildren Mathew, Tesia, Nicholas, Raina and Steven Hogel and Daniel Gevrutz; sisters Dorothy Ross, Harriet Amundsen and Irene Clark; and brother John (Alice) Shakon. Services were held Tuesday at Meadows Funeral Home and Memory Gardens.

    ADAM JAMES JOHNSON
    Of Mt. Prospect

    A memorial Mass for Adam James Johnson, 23, of Mt. Prospect, took place Saturday, Feb. 4, 10 a.m. at St. Edna Church in Arlington Hts. Visitation took place Friday, Feb. 3, 3 to 9 p.m. at Oehler Funeral Home. Born on July 9, 1982, Mr. Johnson was a member of the Prospect Hts Fire Protection District. He graduated from Prospect High School in 2000, and attended Harper College to study fire science training. He was a member of the Kick'n Fitness Martial Arts Club. Mr. Johnson died Tuesday, Jan. 31. Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his grandfather Roger Ullman; and grandmother Wanda Johnson. Mr. Johnson is survived by his parents James and Nanci; brother Kyle; sister Kelly; grandparents Jean Ernsting, Roy Johnson; uncles Roger Ullman, Jack Johnson; aunt Jill (Roy) Grauer; longtime girlfriend Melissa Geisler; and many cousins and friends.     LOIS A. LINDQUIST
    Of Palatine

    Lois A. Lindquist (nee Barr) died Jan. 26 at the age of 72. Her life was celebrated with services at Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home and Memory Gardens Cemetery. An active member of the American Legion, Mrs. Lindquist passed away just five days short of her 73rd birthday. Preceding her in death were husband Oscar and son Todd. Survivors are sons Carl (Nannette), Oscar and Eric; sisters Carol (Spiro) Pappaspiro and Marcia Barr; and many nieces and nephews.     JOSEPHINE LO CASCIO
    Of Niles

    A funeral service for Josephine Lo Cascio took place on Jan. 21 at St. Isaac Jogues Church. Interment was at River Valley Memorial Cemetery in West Dundee. Visitation was on Jan. 20 at Colonial-Wojciechowski Funeral Home in Niles. Mrs. Lo Cascio was born on worked as a homemaker and died in Niles on Jan. 17. She was preceded in death by her husband Alex. She is survived by her children Thomas (Ginger), Virginia (Nick) Vavouliotis, Daniel (Debbie) and Vincent (Paula), and her grandchildren Dean, Evie, Aleka, Mary, Jo Anna, Monica, Sam, Stacy, Lilly, and Cenza, and a great-grandchild Niki. She was also the dear sister, aunt, and friend to many. Funeral arrangements were made by Colonial-Wojciechowski Funeral Home.

    VIRGINIA MCKULSKI
    Age 92

    Virginia McKulski passed away Jan. 27 at Midwest Palliative & Hospice Care. The Morton Grove resident was celebrated with services at Skaja Terrace Funeral Home, St. John Brebeuf Church and Maryhill Cemetery. Mrs. McKulski was preceded in death by parents Isador and Theodora (nee Olszewski) Potrzuski and husband George McKulski Sr. Survivors are son George (Carol) and grandchildren Mark and Kristen McKulski and Pamela (John) DiGioia. Memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer's Association in Skokie.

    JOSEPH MERENDINO
    Of Niles

    A funeral service for Joseph Merendino, 44, took place on Jan. 7 at St. Isaac Jogues Church. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside. Visitation was Jan. 6 at Colonial-Wojciechowski Funeral Home in Niles. Mr. Merendino was born on Oct. 31, 1961 in Chicago. He was a salesman and died at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge on Jan. 2. He was the father of Leander and stepfather of Maggie, the brother of Annamarie (Jim) Macanowicz, Diana (James) Bartelsen, Annette (Gillis) Howard, and Joyce (Joe) Becker. He was also the beloved son of Bernard (Rose) and the late Orabella, dear nephew of Gino (Mary) Merendino, and uncle and friend to many.

    HILDEGARDE MICHAELS
    Gifted Crafter

    A celebration of life funeral service for Hildegarde (Hildy) Martha Michaels, 76, a 46-year-old resident of Elk Grove, was held Feb. 4 in Lutheran Church of the Holy Spirit, Elk Grove Village. Arrangements were by Grove Memorial Chapel. A family member said she was a gifted knitter, craftsperson, and baker, and inspired many generations of cooks. ³She was a gentle soul who taught us unconditional love,² the relative said. ³We miss her and will remember her always.² Surviving are her husband, Robert; children Barbara, Keith, Scott, Sandy, and Robin; and grandchildren Erica, Bruk, Jessica, Ashly, Justin, Michael, Sarah, Glen, and Camilla, and great grand-daughter Hannah.

    GILBERT MOORE
    Of Park Ridge

    A funeral Mass for Gilbert Moore, 85, of Park Ridge was celebrated Feb. 2 in St. Paul of the Cross Church. Interment followed in All Saints Cemetery. Arrangements were by Cooney Funeral Home. A native of Clynish Island, Co. Mayo, Ireland, he died Jan. 30. Mr. Moore was a long-time member and volunteer at the Irish American Heritage Center and the Shamrock American Club. Surviving are his widow, Annabella (nee McMonagle); children Patricia (James) Fluhler, Maureen Tarara, Kathleen (Edward) Nyczaj and Coleen (Gary) Barbanera; brother to Michael Joseph, James, John Thomas (Sheila), Vincent, William, Frank and Bernard; grandfather of 13; great-grandfather of 4; brother-in-law to Mary McMonagle, Margaret (the late Jack) Heffernan; uncle to many nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by his brother Edward (Sarah) and brother-in-law William (Ruth). Memorials are requested to the Shamrock American Club, (847) 685-1002.

    AMY VINCENT
    Of Mt. Prospect

    A funeral service for Amy Vincent, 82, took place privately. She was born on Aug. 23, 1923 in Hoboken, NJ. She died on Jan. 30 at Northwest Community Healthcare in Arlington Hts. Mrs. Vincent was preceded in death by her brother Norman Dorsett and her son Edd Houser. She is survived by her husband of 40 years, H.J. ³Vince² Vincent, and his three children, Pat Maxwell, Dr. Michael Vincent, and Kathy Deckhut. Also her daughter-in-law Jackie Houser, grandson E.J. Houser, and great-grandsons Doug and Edd Houser. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Lung Association.
