Randy Jo Blackburn

Of Arlington Hts.

Randy Jo Blackburn (nee Bernstein), 55, of Arlington Hts. died on Jan. 7. Funeral services were Tuesday, Jan. 12 at Lauterburg and Oehler Funeral Home, Arlington Hts. She was the wife of Raymond Blackburn; mother of Erin (Anton Sasmitamanggala); sister of Robin (Bill Murawski) Brooks and Marc (Jeanne) Bernstein; daughter of Edward and the late Patricia Bernstein.

Eileen Brown

Of Arlington Hts.

Eileen Brown, (nee Dolan) 83, of Arlington Hts., died on Jan. 9, in her home. She was born Sept. 8, 1926. She was an active parishioner of St. James Church for 55 years and a volunteer at the Arlington Historical Society and SPRED. She is survived by her children, Marianne (Joe) Seiz, Kathleen (David Trezise) Brown, James (Peg) Brown, Barbara (Dan) Aloisio, and Margaret (Jay) Bauer; 11 grandchildren and her brother, William Dolan. She was preceded in death by her husband and two sons. Funeral Mass was celebrated Thursday, Jan. 14, at St. James Church, Arlington Hts. Lauterburg & Oehler Funeral Home handled the arrangements.

Stephanie Buir

Of Arlington Hts.

A funeral service for Stephanie Buir, 66, of Arlington Hts., formerly of Park Ridge, will be held privately. She was born June 30, 1943, in Chicago. She passed away Tuesday, Jan. 19 in Arlington Hts. She worked in the financial services and insurance industries for more than 40 years. Before retiring in 2007, she served as chief operating officer for Rippinger Financial in Schaumburg. She is survived by her husband, Aloys; children, Valerie (Larry) Virgillo and Rosemarie (Kenneth) Labudda; and grandchildren, Larry and Olivia.

Joseph Cannistra

Of Skokie

A funeral service for Joseph Cannistra of Skokie, 81, was held Tuesday, Feb. 2 at St. Edna Church in Arlington Hts. He was born June 6, 1928. He passed away Saturday, Jan. 30. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; children, Paul and Peter; and grandchildren, Talia, Gina, Matthew, and Alexis.

Angelo J. Capulli

Of Arlington Hts.

Angelo J. Capulli, 79, of Arlington Hts., formerly of Mt. Prospect died on Wednesday, Jan. 13. He was the husband of Ramona; father of Laura (Dan) Bessey and the late Daniel (Barbara); grandfather of Alexxa, Brianna and Danielle Bessey and Nicholas and Carly Capulli. Funeral Mass was celebrated Jan. 19 at St. Edna Catholic Church, Arlington Hts. Entombment was private.

Edward Joseph Downs

Of Prospect Hts.

Edward Joseph Downs was born Dec. 21, 1937, in Chicago. He died on Thursday, Jan. 28 in Prospect Hts. He served as an associate professor at Harper College for 31 years. Survivors include his wife, Debra; children, Matthew (Christine) Downs and Marcina Kast; his step-daughter, Jacqueline Nesbitt; six grandchildren and his siblings. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Marcina Downs. Memorial Mass was celebrated Tuesday, Feb 2 at St. Alphonsus Church.

Frank Dressner

Formerly of Mt. Prospect

Frank Dressner was born Feb. 27, 1923, in Croatia. He died Thursday, Jan. 21, at Joanne's House at Hope Hospice in Bonita Springs, Florida. He owned and operated Dressner's Meat Market in Chicago prior to his retirement. Family and friends met for entombment on Wednesday, Jan. 27 at All Saints Cemetery, Des Plaines. Matz Funeral home handled the arrangements. He was the husband of Anna; father of Charles (Vicki) Dressner, Anne Marie (John) Shaver; grandfather of Lucas and Sarah Strahan and Nicole, Ryan and Dana Dressner.

Sam F. Gaziano

Of Arlington Hts.

Funeral Mass for Sam F. Gaziano, 90, of Arlington Hts. and formerly of Waukegan, was celebrated Tuesday, Jan. 20 at St. Cecilla Church, Mt. Prospect. Interment was in Fort Sheridan Cemetery. He was the husband of the late Rose; father of Joseph (Mary) Gaziano; Francis (Lynn) Gaziano, Mary Crais and Margaret (David) Weeks, grandfather of 14 and great-grandfather of seven.

Paul R. Gouwens

Of Prospect Hts.

Paul R. Gouwens, 87, of Prospect Hts., died on Saturday, Jan. 23. He was the founder of Cast Metals International and a U.S. Navy veteran. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Dena; children, David (Sharon) Gouwens, Laura Gouwens, Lee (Mary) Gouwens, and Kay (Peter Maassen) Gouwens and four grandchildren. A Committal Service was held Wednesday, Jan. 27 at Smits, DeYoung-Vroegh Funeral Home in South Holland and then to Oak Ridge Cemetery in Lansing. A Celebration of Life service was held Jan. 28, at First Presbyterian Church, Arlington Hts.

Frances Hannahs

Of Des Plaines

Frances Hannahs, 90, of Des Plaines, was born Nov. 22, in Erie, PA. She was a long-time member of the Des Plaines Nurses Association. She died Jan. 25, in Des Plaines. She was the wife of the late Dr. A.C. Seguin and the late John Russell Hannahs; mother of Martha (David) Nelson and William (Stephanie) Hannahs; stepmother of John R. (Marilyn) Hannahs and J. Gregory (Elizabeth) Hannahs; grandmother of Erica and Theodore Nelson. Funeral services were Saturday, Jan. 30 at Friedrichs Funeral Home and St. Emily Church.

Donald L. Howery

Of Niles

A private funeral service was held recently for Donald L. Howery of Niles, 84, who died Jan. 25 in his home. Burial was in Ridgewood Cemetery, Des Plaines. He was a veteran of Navy service. Surviving is his son, Rev. Steven Howery.

James Hudson

Formerly of Arlington Hts.

A memorial Mass for James Hudson, formerly of Arlington Hts., was celebrated Saturday, Jan. 16, at St. Edna Church, Arlington Hts. He was born Aug. 3, 1960, in Bellwood and he died on Dec. 12, in Bloomington, Ill. He is survived by his oldest son, Steven; younger sons, Jimmy and Michael; and their mother, Cathy Amundsen. He has three surviving siblings. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carol Ann and James Hudson.

Fredric A. Jensen

Of Mt. Prospect

A funeral service for Fredric A. Jensen, 78, of Mt. Prospect, was on Tuesday, Jan. 26, at First Methodist Church, Arlington Hts. Interment was in Memory Gardens Cemetery. He was born Dec. 8, 1931, in Chicago, and died Saturday, Jan. 23, at home. He was a Navy veteran during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Prospect Hts. Volunteer Fire Dept. and worked at the Prospect Hts. Public Library. He was the father of Lois (David) Fort, Allen (Learose) Jensen and Walt (Debbie) Jensen; grandfather of four; great-grandfather of two; son of Lucille Herbst and brother of Lee (Nancy) Herbst.

Daniel Krippes

Of Buffalo Grove

A funeral service for Daniel Krippes of Buffalo Grove, 28, was held Monday, Jan. 25 at Hope Lutheran Church of Buffalo Grove. He was born Aug. 15, 1981. He passed away Wednesday, Jan. 20 in his home. He is survived by his parents, Edward and Kathleen; his brother, Thomas, and his grandmothers, Joan Krippes and Anne Kazuk.

William O. Laske

Fire Estimator

William O. Laske, 89, formerly of Des Plaines, died on Jan. 21 in Libertyville. He served as an estimator in the fire protection industry for 30 years and in the U.S. Army during World War II. Entombment is at the Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.

M. Eileen Lucas

Of Palatine

M. Eileen Lucas, of Palatine, formerly of Rockford, died peacefully at home on Jan. 22. She was born Apr. 19, 1920, and worked for two Rockford newspapers. She is survived by her husband of nearly 61 years, Robert; her children, Rob (Donna) Lucas, Peter (Janet) Lucas, Roscoe and daughter, Ann (Ray) Franczak; seven grandchildren and her sister-in-law. Funeral Mass was celebrated on Tuesday, Jan. 26, in Holy Family Catholic Church.  Burial in Calvary Cemetery. Fitzgerald Funeral Home and Crematory handled the arrangements.

Charles W. Mazalan, 85, of Des Plaines, died on Jan. 19. He was the husband of the late Ethel R.; father of Janet (Ron) Vykruta and Karen (Edward) Else; grandfather of Branden, Justen, Katrina and Eric; brother of Robert. Funeral services were Monday, Jan. 25 at Matz Funeral Home's chapel and St. Mary Church, Des Plaines for Mass. Interment was at All Saints Cemetery.

James T. McAndrews

A funeral Mass for James T. McAndrews, 67, took place Friday, Jan. 29 aat St. Raymond Catholic Church in Mt. Prospect. Interment will be at All Saints Cemetery in Des Plaines. Visitation was held at Glueckert Funeral Home in Arlington Hts. His wife Lanette (nee Koons) survives him.

Patricia Ann McCollum

Of Arlington Hts.

A funeral Mass for Patricia Ann McCollum, 83, took place on Monday, Jan. 25 at St. James Church in Arlington Hts. Interment was at All Saints Cemetery in Des Plaines. Visitation was Sunday, Jan. 24 at Glueckert Funeral Home in Arlington Hts. Mrs. McCollum was born on Aug. 31, 1936. She died on Jan. 20, 2010 at home. Harry McCollum, her husband of 53 years, and her children Kathy (Steve) Butler, Patty (Steve) Barker, Harry (Ann) McCollum, Greg (Sharon) McCollum, and Barbara (Dwain) Holden survive her.

Elisabeth Millich

Of Chicago

A funeral service for Elisabeth Millich, of Chicago, 87, was held Monday, Feb. 1 at St. Emily Church in Mt. Prospect. She was born May 3, 1922. She passed away Thursday, Jan. 28. She is survived by children, Marianne Koscak and Anneliese Cohen; grandchildren, Tina Sheehan, Cynthia Halstead, and Eric and Dana Cohen; and great-grandchildren, Collin, Breanna, Luke, Christian, Rachel, and Ava. Mrs. Millich was preceded in death by her husband, Ludwig.

Maurice Murphy

Of Arlington Hts.

A funeral service for Maurice Murphy, 92, of Arlington Hts., was held Saturday, Jan. 30 at The Moorings retirement community. He was born Nov. 13, 1917 in Madison. He passed away Saturday, Jan. 23. He was an Air Force veteran and retired as a lieutenant colonel. He served in the Chin-Burma Theatre during World War II. He served in England during the Korean War. He was also assigned to Defense Intelligence in Washington, D.C., during the Vietnam War. He is survived by his children, Kathryn (James) O'Brien, Mike (Diana) Murphy, and Alice (Craig) Shreiner; and grandchildren, Timothy and Nora O'Brien, Jonathan (Colleen) O'Brien, Krista (Daniel) Page, Ryan (Ronda) Murphy, Erik Shreiner, Anna (Kevin) Morowczynski, and Brett Shreiner; and great-grandchildren, Keegan, Kailin, Tynan, Daniel, Aiden, and Ansley. Mr. Murphy was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn.

Donald E. Putzier

A memorial service for Donald E. Putzier, 79, took place on Saturday, Jan. 23 at First Presbyterian Church of Arlington Hts. Interment was private. Mr. Putzier was born on Feb. 20, 1930 in Chicago. He died on Jan. 8, 2010, in Arlington Hts. His wife Barbara (nee Flitcraft) and his son Peter Putzier preceded him in death. A funeral service for Joan Rowells of Des Plaines, 81, was held Saturday Jan. 30 at G.L. Hills Funeral Home in Des Plaines. She was born Oct. 11, 1928 in Chicago. She passed away Tuesday, Jan. 26 in Des Plaines. She is survived by her children, Clyde, Craig, JoDee, Hanselmann and Lori; her grandchildren, Cary, Jason, Kurt, Jeannie, Jamie, Drew, and Jessica; and her great-grandchildren, Addalie and Aidan. Mrs. Rowells was preceded in death by her husband, William.

Kathleen C. Ryan

Services for Kathleen C. Ryan, 69, of Harvard, were held on Friday, Jan. 29, at Lauterburg & Oehler Funeral Home, Arlington Hts. She was born Oct. 4, 1940, in Chicago and died Monday, Jan. 25, in Woodstock. She was the mother of Barry Finn, Mark Finn, Robin (John) Mackin, Rita (Tim) Stephens, Jaye (Suzy) Finn, Tina (Jeff) Olson, Ray Finn and Kathleen (Mark) Slater; grandmother of 20 and great-grandmother of 11, sister of Eileen, Rita and Winnie.

Raymond Schreiber

Of Arlington Hts.

A funeral service for Raymond Schreiber of Arlington Hts., 57, was held Monday, Jan. 25 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Buffalo Grove. He was born Feb. 27, 1952. He passed away Wednesday, Jan. 20 in Wheeling. He is survived by his son, John Schreiber and his siblings, Roberta (Joe) Muran, Ron (Marie) Schreiber, and Bob (Lauri) Schreiber.

Raymond F. Stettner

Of Des Plaines

Raymond F. Stettner, 87, of Des Plaines, died on Jan. 21. He was the husband of Judy; father of Craig, Thomas (Allison), Dave (Amy) Stettner; grandfather of Elizabeth, Nathan and Aaron; brother of June Stettner and the late Arline (Fred) Merz. He was a graduate of Purdue University and was also an Army Air Corps veteran who was involved in the bombing of Tokyo. A memorial service was held on Monday, Jan. 25, at First Methodist Church, Des Plaines. G.L. Hills Funeral Home handled the arrangements.

Rosemary Van Vleet

Aug. 11, 1922-Jan. 28, 2010

Rosemary Van Vleet was born in Castleford, Idaho and was a graduate of Methodist Kahler Nursing School in Rochester, MN. She married Lt. Vernon Van Vleet in 1945. As a team they established Van's TV in 1955 faithfully servicing the community for over 50 years.

Mrs. Van Vleet also did private duty nursing in the North Shore. An active member of the Des Plaines Bible Church (now known as the Bridge Community Church) for 59 years, Rosemary taught Sunday School, helped with youth activities, served on many committees and was a faithful AWANA Club worker. Rosemary was known for her loving, kind spirit always having a smile and kind word for everyone friend or stranger.

Rosemary passed away on Thursday, Jan. 28 at 2 p.m. surrounded by her family. She was the beloved wife of Vernon and loving mother of four children, Twyla (Larry) Harbel; Greg (Linda) Van Vleet; Tom (Ali) Van Vleet; Michele (Brian) Bednarski; 12 grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Leukemia Society. A memorial service will be held at Bridge Community Church, 946 Thacker St., Des Plaines, at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 6.

Leisa Rae Voleck

Of Rolling Meadows

A funeral service for Leisa Rae Voleck, 65, a resident of Rolling Meadows, was held Jan. 30 in Community Church of Rolling Meadows. Interment followed in Windbridge Cemetery, Cary. Arrangements were by Meadows Funeral Home. A native of Elkhart, Indiana, she died Jan. 26 in Manor Care of Rolling Meadows. She was a member of the Community Church and sang in the choir. Surviving are her husband, Tony; and children Julie (Michael) Hopkins and Ryan Voleck.

Andree Lee Voss 

Of Des Plaines

Funeral services for Andree Lee Voss (nee Fisher) of Des Plaines were held at Trinity Lutheran Church on Friday, Jan. 29. Visitation was held Thursday, Jan. 28 at Oehler Funeral Home in Des Plaines. Interment was private. Voss was born in Lowell, Indiana, on Oct. 8, 1935 and died on Tuesday, Jan. 26 in Des Plaines. She was 74. Voss was a homemaker, a Maine West booster, a den mother and a member of the Trinity choir and bowling league. She worked as a sales clerk at the Hallmark store and at V&S Variety. Voss is survived by her husband Jack G. Voss, sons Keith (Kathy) and Mark (Julie) Voss, grandchildren; Brianna, Justin, Kristina, Michael, Deanna and Ryan, brother-in-law Norman (Jean) Voss niece Norma (Tom) Schaefer and nephew Robert (Jan) Voss.

George L. Weiszmann

Formerly of Des Plaines

George L (Pudgy) Weiszmann of East Dundee passed away on Thursday, Jan. 28.

Mr. Weiszmann was born in Chicago on May 13, 1929. After high school, he joined the Naval Reserves and served there for 23 years.

Mr. Weiszmann began a career as a butcher at Jewel Food Stores that lasted 37 years. He married Charline Butler of Three Rivers, MI in 1953. He and Charline were Des Plaines residents for 35 years. They had four daughters, three (married). Georgann (Robert) Dadabo of Dundee; Therese (Michael) Jaeger of Las Vegas, NV; Doris (the late James) Bronk of Carpentersville and the Rev. Stoney Weiszmann. George and Charline had nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

After retiring from Jewel in 1982, George became actively involved in the Des Plaines Emergency Management Agency (EMA) chapter serving for 20 years. He and his family were involved at St. Mary Catholic Church during their time in Des Plaines.

Services for Mr. Weiszmann will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Des Plaines on Friday, Feb. 5. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. with a memorial service at 5 p.m.

Caroll E. Werner

Of Elk Grove Village

Caroll E. Werner, 71, of Elk Grove Village died on Saturday, Jan. 23. She was the wife of the late Victor Werner; mother of Michelle (Richard) Knez, Brian (Andrea) Frank and the late Scott Frank; grandmother of Richie and Victoria Knez and Collin and Jocelyn Frank; former wife of Lori (Stephanie) Frank. Funeral services were Wednesday, Jan. 23 at The Oaks Funeral Home, Itasca. Entombment at All Saints Mausoleum.

David Christian Zell

Of Rolling Meadows

David Christian Zell, 71, of Rolling Meadows, died Jan. 26, in his home. He was born Dec. 16, 1938 in Minnesota. He worked for Illinois Bell as a repairman for over 42 years. He was the husband of Dianna; father of Michael (Mimi), Richard (Jennifer), Kenneth (Andrea) Daniel (Dena), Nichole (Nate) Nelson and Christopher (Julie) Zell; grandfather of 15; and loving brother. Funeral services were Saturday, Jan. 30 at Meadows Funeral Home, Rolling Meadows.

Stefan Zimmer

Of Elk Grove Village

Stefan Zimmer, 71, of Elk Grove Village died at Lutheran General Hospital on Jan. 22. He was born in Yugoslavia and was retired having been a 25-year employee of Lincoln Provision Inc. of Chicago as plant manager. Funeral Mass was Wednesday, Jan. 27, at St. Matthew Church. Interment was at Maryhill Cemetery. He was the husband of Maria; father of Susan A. (Michael) Duffy; Tina M. (David) Kowalski and Monika A. Zimmer; grandfather of five and loving brother.
