Man Charged, Others Cited In Bowling Alley Gambling Bust

Morton Grove police took one man into custody and issued others citations in an effort to stop reported bowling league gambling at Classic Bowl in that village.

The popular bowling alley is located on Waukegan Road just east of the Niles border.

Morton Grove Police Cmdr. Mike Fujara said detectives received an anonymous tip that Tuesday night league bowlers were engaging in gambling on games.

After several Tuesday night visits by undercover detectives, police came in force on Tuesday, Nov. 17.

The alleged leader of the gambling ring was taken into custody and charged with a local ordinance violation.

Both Classic Bowl manager Michael Jardine and the alley itself were issued local ordinance citations for allowing the gambling to take place.

Fujara said Classic Bowl has no past record of receiving similar citations from the village.  All those cited in connection with last week's police action will appear at Morton Grove Village Hall on Monday, Dec. 9 at 10 a.m. for hearings.
