Dilg House Listed Among Historic Places

The Herbert A. Dilg House at 8544 Callie in Morton Grove was listed in the National Register of Historic Places on Sept. 30 by the National Park Service.

"The Herbert A. Dilg House is significant for its association with an early Morton Grove civic leader and as an excellent example of the Chicago Bungalow style of home in the village," said Jan Grimes, director of the Illinois Historic Preservation Agency (IHPA), which administers the National Register program in Illinois.

The house was built in 1925-1926 by Morton Grove Mayor Herbert A. Dilg during his first term as village president. Three generations of Dilg family members served as civic and business leaders in Morton Grove. The house is the only intact structure associated with Herbert Dilg.

"The home's Chicago Bungalow style distinguishes it from its early 20th century neighbors by its modestly progressive design that reflects the forward looking spirit of its owner," read a statement from the IHPA.
