Irish Invade Niles As Sister City Delegation Comes For Visit

Niles village officials are gearing up to greet civic leaders from their sister city of Leixlip, Ireland.

A delegation of 31 Irish officials will be in Niles to celebrate the 10-year sister cities partnership between Niles and Leixlip between Wednesday, July 1 and Monday, July 6.

Included in the delegation are Leixlip Mayor Teresa Bryne, Kildare County Mayor Colm Purcell, both newly-elected to office in Irish elections last week, and 12 musicians who will host several public concerts in Niles.

The delegation arrives at O'Hare Airport today (Wednesday), July 1 in the late afternoon from Ireland.

The following day the delegation will tour downtown Chicago and enjoy a welcoming dinner in Niles with village officials.

Friday, Niles officials will show off the village to the Irish delegation and hold business meetings.

On Saturday, July 4 the joint delegation will march in the Independence Day parade. Musicians will perform at Grennan Hts. Park after the parade.

Sunday, Irish musicians will again perform at an afternoon concert at the senior center followed by an anniversary dinner at White Eagle Banquet Hall.

Monday concludes the trip as the Irish delegation departs from O'Hare Airport for Ireland.

During the business meetings, village officials are expected to discuss plans to bring a Niles delegation to Ireland and discuss other mutually beneficial business opportunities.

Niles officials said the entire travel and housing cost for this trip was paid for by the Irish delegation.
