Police Blotter

These items are from Niles Police Department incident reports. The Niles Journal publishes this police blotter every Wednesday.

DUI CHARGES

Julio M. Salazar, 29, of 8513 N. Milwaukee Ave., Niles, was charged with aggravated driving while under the influence of alcohol, no valid driver's license, no proof of insurance, and no headlights. Police stopped him at 4:18 a.m. June 13 in the 8600 block of Golf Road for the alleged lighting violation. He allegedly failed field sobriety tests and later refused a breath test.

Javier Cruz-Cuevas, 21, of 636 N. Sheridan Rd., Highwood, was charged with aggravated driving while under the influence of alcohol, driving with a suspended driver's license, no proof of insurance, and improper lane usage. He was pulled over at 3:55 a.m. June 14 at Golf Road and Washington Street for the alleged traffic violation. He allegedly failed field sobriety tests and later refused a breath test.

Thomas S. Bystol, 40, of 520 W. Third St., Chicago, was charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol and speeding at 11:37 p.m. June 17. Police stopped him in the 7900 block of Milwaukee Avenue for allegedly driving at 53 mph in a 35 mph zone. He allegedly failed field sobriety tests and later refused a breath test.

RETAIL THEFT CHARGED

Andrzej Makowski, 24 of 9237 Delphia Ave., Des Plaines, was charged with retail theft at Wal-Mart, 8500 Golf Rd. He was stopped at 8:54 p.m. June 17 after he allegedly tried to leave without paying for two DVDs valued at a total of $24.96.

Jason T. Yasin, 23, of 2442 S. Winamac Ave., Chicago, was charged with petite theft at 6:05 p.m. June 17. He was stopped at Wal-Mart, 5630 Touhy Ave. after he allegedly tried to leave without paying for eight DVDs valued at a total of $77.

Suzana Hurem, 38, of 1074 Arnold Court, Des Plaines, was charged with petite theft at Wal-Mart, 8500 Golf Rd. She was stopped at 7:41 p.m. June 16 after she allegedly tried to leave without paying for a bag, three pairs of shoes, and a sweatshirt valued at a total of $82.47.

Kalech Mathieu, 23, of 9403 Meadow Lane, Des Plaines, was charged with petite theft at 8:10 p.m. June 15 at Wal-Mart, 8500 Golf Rd. He allegedly tried to leave without paying for a video game router valued at $99.96.

RETAIL THEFT REPORTED

Two men took a cellular telephone from U.S. Cellular in Golf Mill Mall at 4:30 p.m. June 17.

A man took sets of blinds valued at a total of $1,177.32 from Home Depot, 8650 W. Dempster St. at 12:10 p.m. June 15. He fled in a black Chevrolet Impala and was recognized on video tapes as a suspect in another retail theft in Waukegan.

DRIVING CHARGES

Adam Gasiewski, 21, of 8892 Jody Lane, Des Plaines, was charged with no valid driver's license and speeding at an unreleased time on June 17. Police stopped him for allegedly driving at 64 mph in a 35 mph zone in the 9100 block of Milwaukee Avenue.

Juan Martinez, 19, of 5250 S. Maplewood Ave., Chicago, was charged with no valid driver's license and speeding. He was pulled over at 3:09 p.m. June 16 at Caldwell and Touhy avenues for allegedly driving at 50 mph in a 35 mph zone.

Arnulfo Rivera, 29, of 9365 Dee Rd., Des Plaines, was charged with no valid driver's license and no proof of insurance at an unreleased time on June 16. He was taken into custody after a traffic crash in the 9200 block of Milwaukee Avenue.

Deandre S. Hawkins, 25, of 1420 N. Central Park Ave., Chicago, was charged with driving with a suspended driver's license and failure to yield right of way while turning left. Police apprehended him at 2:20 p.m. June 15 after a traffic crash at Caldwell Avenue and Gross Point Road.
