Girl Scouts To Collect Food Donations At 4th Parade
Girl Scouts from as many as 12 troops marching in the Niles Fourth of July Parade will be doing more than waving from their float, they will be pushing shopping carts for a cause.
Scout leader Michael Moore said the girls hope to fill eight shopping carts as they walk the parade route with canned goods and are asking the public to come to the parade prepared to make a donation.
Girl Scouts from as many as 12 troops in the Niles/Morton Grove area have been going door to door along the parade route dropping off flyers and putting up posters in local businesses.
Moore said he plans to have the girls walk the full carts from Grennan Hts. Park, where the parade ends, to the Niles Family Services food pantry near village hall at Waukegan Road and Oakton Street to make the donation that same day.
Moore saw another charitable organization conduct the same type of food drive at a recent parade in Itasca and thought his girls could do that in Niles.
