George Issues Statement

The following is a statement from George D. Alpogianis regarding his resignation issued this week:

"After careful consideration and discussion with my family, friends and supporters, I have decided to resign as Trustee of the Village of Niles. Although the voters overwhelmingly chose to elect me knowing of my previous encounters over 25 years ago, I feel that this issue is becoming a distraction for the mayor and board to accomplish our goals for Niles.

I ran for trustee because of a strong passion for our community and a desire to serve and ensure Niles remains a great place to live, work and raise a family. I remain committed to this goal and will continue to volunteer and be active in the community. It is because of my strong commitment to the Village of Niles and the citizens who live here that I am going to step down so that Mayor Callero and the board can completely focus on achieving the goals we laid out during our campaign.

Mayor Callero and the board have all demonstrated a strong commitment to Niles. I have the utmost confidence in them moving forward the agenda I set out in the campaign. I have been humbled by the outpouring of support I have received from the mayor, the board and the citizens of Niles and am so appreciative of everyone for their support.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank my family for their undying support, the mayor and the board for the opportunity and their support, and finally, all of those who came out to support me during this trying time, whether it was at the polls, on the street or at Kappy's."
