Details Set For Annual '4th' Parade, Festivities
Niles officials released more details about this year's Fourth of July parade and festivities.
As of yesterday (Tuesday), Assistant to the Village Manager Denise Joseph said 77 groups were scheduled to participate in this year's parade.
Marchers will step off on Saturday, July 4 at 9 a.m. from Notre Dame High School proceeding south on Ozark Avenue to Main Street, east on Main to Harlem Avenue, south on Harlem to Monroe Street and west on Monroe to Oketo Avenue ending at Grennan Hts. Park.
Once at Grennan Hts., festivities will continue with pony rides, games, face painting, a large inflatable obstacle course and water slide for the kids, with entertainment provided by the Murray Brothers. Food and beer for the adults will also be served.
Festivities are scheduled from 10:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. at the park. Marching in this year's parade will be recognizable acts such as the Jesse White Tumblers, Rosemont Cavaliers Drum & Bugle Corps and a group from the Chicago 2016 Olympic Committee along with local groups such as Boy Scout Troop 175, Girl Scout Troop Zista Five and Niles VFW, Lions Club and Knights of Columbus chapters.
Several streets will be closed for parade. There will be no parking along the route and additional restrictions are in place for streets near Grennan Hts. until 2 p.m. on July 4.
This year's parade is expected to cost about $20,000. The parade is a bit smaller and less costly than last year's Independence Day parade that cost $25,000 and had 90 groups participate.
