Police Blotter
These items are from Niles Police Department incident reports. The Niles Journal publishes this police blotter every Wednesday.
DOMESTIC BATTERY CHARGED
Kevin M. Maguire, 39, of 9074 W. Terrace Drive, Niles, was charged with domestic battery, battery, and criminal damage to property. He was taken into custody at his home at 7:50 p.m. Apr. 21. The alleged incident occurred at 7 p.m. Apr. 20 in the 8100 block of Farnsworth Drive, police said.
TRESPASS CHARGED
Jing Xu, 56, of 6674 W. Harts Rd., Niles, was charged with criminal trespass to property and two counts of resisting police at 9:45 a.m. Apr. 20. Xu was taken into custody at Gross Point Manor, 6601 Touhy Ave. She had been employed by the facility but terminated from her job on Apr. 20, according to the police report. She was told to leave but allegedly refused. Officers located her on the third floor and tried to escort her from the building. She allegedly refused to leave several times, and then fell to her knees to avoid being taken from the building. When officers tried to handcuff her, she allegedly struggled with them until being subdued and taken from the facility. She was later warned not to return to Gross Point Manor.
DAMAGED CHARGED
Jacob A. Bowman, 21, of 8416 W. Roseview Drive, Niles, was charged with criminal damage to vehicle at 10:50 p.m. Apr. 16. He allegedly broke the rear window of a car in the parking lot of Golf Mill Mall while two people were talking inside the vehicle. They fled the scene and called police who took Bowman into custody at the mall.
Arthur R. Stahlberg, 77, of 1004 S. Chester Ave., Park Ridge, was charged with criminal damage to vehicle at 1:15 p.m. Apr. 14. He allegedly used a key to scratch a car in the 7300 block of Caldwell Avenue. A witness called police who located Stahlberg inside a nearby store.
OBSTRUCTION CHARGED
Anthony Miller, 19, of 8824 N. Wisner Ave., Niles, was charged with obstructing justice. He was the passenger in a car stopped at 5:46 p.m. Apr. 15 in the 8000 block of Dempster Street. Miller allegedly gave police a fictitious name and age and was taken into custody for further investigation. A fingerprint check revealed his identity and he was also served an outstanding warrant from Deerfield for aggravated home repair fraud.
FIRES REPORTED
Charcoal briquettes apparently caused a dumpster fire in the 6000 block of Gross Point Road at about 3 p.m. Apr. 20. Employees of a business told police they doused the charcoal before putting it in the dumpster, but some of the coals were apparently still hot enough to ignite paper. Firefighters doused the small fire.
Another dumpster fire was reported at 2:35 p.m. Apr. 18 in the 5600 block of Touhy Avenue. Firefighters put out that fire as well; unknown people were seen smoking in the area shortly before the fire was found.
DRUG CHARGES
Kevin M. Maguire, 39, of 8917 N. Oriole Ave., Morton Grove, was charged with possession of a controlled substance, aggravated driving while under the influence of alcohol, driving with a revoked driver's license, no proof of insurance, and speeding. Police stopped him at 3:02 a.m. Apr. 18 for allegedly driving at 44 mph in a 25 mph zone in the 8800 block of Cumberland Avenue. He allegedly failed field sobriety tests and later refused a breath test. During a protective pat down search, police allegedly recovered two plastic bags containing suspected crack cocaine from his hat.
Michael L. Jones, 35, of 9009 West Oaks Drive, Des Plaines, was charged with possession of cannabis at 5:20 p.m. Apr. 16. Police located him inside his vehicle in the 8400 block of Dempster Street after receiving a call of an unresponsive person. Officers allegedly recovered a plastic bag containing suspected marijuana from inside his car.
DUI CHARGES
Tariq G. Khan, 48, of 5304 W. Addison St., Chicago, was charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol, illegal transportation of alcohol, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, improper lane usage, and cost of emergency service. Khan was allegedly driving west in the eastbound lanes of Touhy Ave. in front of the police department at 11:46 p.m. Apr. 21.
