THEFT AND

BATTERY

An unidentified person, described as possibly being a woman, escaped capture at Wal-Mart, 5630 Touhy Ave., at 2:10 p.m. Sept. 5. The suspect allegedly tried to leave without paying for clothing valued at $52.87. A security guard tried to stop her but she struggled and punched the guard in the face. She also knocked a store patron to the ground, causing an injury to her head. The suspect dropped the merchandise and ran from the parking lot.

CHECK

SCAM

A 43-year-old Niles man reported being victimized by a check scam. He received a letter in the mail informing him he was to participate in a mystery shopper program. The letter included a check for $3,993 that he deposited in his bank. On Sept. 9, he spoke to an alleged representative from the company who told him to send $3,300 via Moneygram. The man checked with his bank and learned the deposit was refused but that they would attempt to put the check through a second time. Despite that information, he sent the $3,300; he later learned the original check was fictitious.

DUI

CHARGES

Karolina Torres, 24, of 4811 N. Olcott Ave., Harwood Heights, was charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol, expired registration, and speeding. An officer clocked her allegedly driving at 52 mph in a 35 mph zone in the 7400 block of Milwaukee Avenue at 1:10 a.m. Sept. 12. Torres allegedly turned onto Birchwood Avenue and stopped in the 7000 block of Birchwood. When the officer approached her vehicle, he saw her allegedly hiding under the steering wheel. She allegedly failed field sobriety tests and later refused a breath test.

Boguslaw Sajdak, 48, of 9382 Bay Colony Drive, Des Plaines, was charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol, blood alcohol content more than .08 percent, speeding, improper lane usage, and failure to signal. Police stopped him at 1:34 a.m. Sept. 8 in the 8900 block of Milwaukee Avenue for allegedly driving at 53 mph in a 35 mph zone, weaving between lanes, and changing lanes without signaling. He allegedly failed field sobriety tests and later recorded a .156 on a breath test.

Daryl C. Bengtson, 50, of 8906 N. Wisner Ave., Niles, was charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol and improper lane usage. He was stopped in the 8700 block of Milwaukee Avenue at 2:47 a.m. Sept. 7 for allegedly weaving over the centerline. He allegedly failed field sobriety tests and later refused a breath test.

Christopher R. Raschillo, 21, of 4150 Central Rd., Glenview, was charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol, driving with a suspended driver's license, and expired registration. Police stopped him at Milwaukee and Kedzie avenues at 2:29 a.m. Sept. 6. He allegedly failed field sobriety tests and later refused a breath test. He was also served an outstanding warrant from Mt. Prospect for driving with a suspended driver's license.

Danial R.B. Shea, 33, of 7727 N. Sunset Drive, Elmwood Park, was charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol at 1:45 a.m. Sept. 6. He was stopped during a roadside safety check in the 7200 block of Milwaukee Avenue. He allegedly failed field sobriety tests and later refused a breath test.

Oh Park, 25, of 4934 N. Kimball Ave., Chicago, was charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol and blood alcohol content more than .08 percent at 3:12 a.m. Sept. 6. Police stopped him during a roadside safety check in the 7000 block of West Touhy Avenue. He allegedly failed field sobriety tests and later recorded a .108 on a breath test.

ALCOHOL

CHARGES

Dimitri J. Juste, 23, of 10384 Michael Todd Terrace, Glenview, was charged with drinking in the public way at 8:25 p.m. Sept. 9. An officer stopped him in the parking lot of Golf Mill Mall for allegedly drinking a beer. He was also served an outstanding warrant from Berwyn for obstructing police.

Arturo Saldana-Villanueva, 43, of 419 Anita St., Wheeling, was charged with public intoxication at 11:50 p.m. Sept. 6. Police stopped him in the 9200 block of Milwaukee Avenue.

John D. Mohr, 55, of 6300 Touhy Ave., Niles, was charged with public intoxication and cost of emergency services at 9:20 p.m. Sept. 5. He was taken into custody when officers responded to the YMCA to break up a disturbance.

RETAIL THEFT

CHARGED

Heather L. Garrity, 21, of 7017 W. Main St., Niles, was charged with retail theft at Kohl's Department Store in Golf Mill Mall. Police stopped her at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 10 after she allegedly tried to leave without paying for shirts valued at a total of $194.

Migdalia Fernandez, 42, of 3105 N. Haussen Court, Chicago, was charged with felony retail theft at 6:48 p.m. Sept. 9. She was stopped at Home Depot, 901 Civic Center Drive, when she allegedly tried to leave without paying for fuses, furniture sliders, and an electrical coupler valued at a total of $96.69.

Daniel Malina, 45, of 4900 Davis Ave., Skokie, was charged with felony retail theft at Wal-Mart, 5630 Touhy Ave., at 5:57 p.m. Sept. 8. He allegedly tried to leave without paying for four DVDs valued at a total of $98.84.

Vanessa Layton, 53, of 5154 W. Crystal St., Chicago, was charged with felony retail theft at 10:05 a.m. Sept. 8. She was stopped at J.C. Penney in Golf Mill Mall after she allegedly tried to leave without paying for perfume.

Cresencia Larocca, 53, of 4811 N. Olcott Ave., Harwood Heights, was charged with retail theft at J.C. Penney in Golf Mill Mall. Police apprehended her at 12:32 p.m. Sept. 7 after she allegedly tried to leave without paying for jewelry and clothing valued at a total of $125.

Sugar Lou, 22, of 946 N. Greenwood Ave., Park Ridge, was charged with retail theft at Shop N Save in Golf Mill Mall. She was stopped at 2:53 p.m. Sept. 7 after she allegedly tried to leave without paying for 13 packages of steaks.

Lissette Molina, 32, of 1309 Elliott St., Park Ridge, was charged with retail theft at J.C. Penney in Golf Mill Mall. Police stopped her at 7:08 p.m. Sept. 11 after she allegedly tried to leave without paying for jewelry valued at $96.

Zorigt Yadamjav, 45, of 1854 Pine St., Des Plaines, was charged with petite theft at 8 a.m. Sept. 11 at Home Depot, 901 Civic Center Drive. He allegedly tried to leave without paying for a laser level valued at $89.96.

Aldijana Peric, 24, of 6221 N. Francisco Ave., Chicago, was charged with retail theft at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 8. She was stopped at J.C. Penney in Golf Mill Mall after she allegedly tried to leave without paying for a blouse valued at $36.

Isabel M. Mota, 22, of 855 W. Moreland Ave., Vernon Hills, and an 18-year-old Vernon Hills woman were charged with retail theft at Kohl's Department Store in Golf Mill Mall. Police stopped them at 10 p.m. Sept. 8 after they allegedly tried to leave without paying for clothing valued at a total of $245.27.

Estella R. Bernardino, 51, of 2826 Nelson St., Chicago, was charged with petite theft at J.C. Penney in Golf Mill Mall at 2:30 p.m. Sept. 7. She allegedly tried to leave without paying for perfume valued at a total of $101.

Wioleta Chmielewska, 24, of 282 Seventh St., Wheeling, was charged with petite theft at 4:01 p.m. Sept. 7. She was stopped at Kohl's Department Store in Golf Mill Mall after she allegedly tried to leave without paying for seven bras valued at a total of $147.

RETAIL THEFT

REPORTED

Two men came into Radio Shack, 9515 Milwaukee Ave., at about 6:45 p.m. Sept. 8. They asked the clerk questions about computers, and then asked to see a model that was not on display. When she went to the back to get the unit, they grabbed a laptop computer and a global positioning system and ran from the store. The merchandise was valued at a total of $1,149.85.

DRIVING

CHARGES

Lester Flott, 27, of 1910 Hervey St., North Chicago, was charged with no valid driver's license and obstructed view at 1:33 p.m. Sept. 11. An officer pulled him over in the 7000 block of Dempster Street for allegedly having objects hanging from his rearview mirror.

Rogelio Sixto-Moreno, 38, of 3134 W. Belle Plaine Ave., Chicago, was charged with no valid driver's license at an unreleased time on Sept. 9. He was taken into custody after a traffic accident at Howard Street and Neva Avenue.

Clairemise Borrego, 27, of 2716 W. Kilbourn Ave., Chicago, was charged with driving with a suspended driver's license, expired registration, and failure to signal. Police stopped him at 6:16 p.m. Sept. 8 in the 8800 block of Milwaukee Avenue for the alleged registration violation and not signaling a turn.

Sandra Pedraza-Hernandez, 26, of 8457 W. Dempster St., Niles, was charged with no valid driver's license and expired registration at 3:17 p.m. Sept. 8. An officer pulled her over in the 8800 block of Greenwood Avenue for the alleged registration violation.

Juan M. Munoz, 25, of 1407 Fowler St., Evanston, was charged with driving with a suspended driver's license, no proof of insurance, and disobeying a traffic control sign. He allegedly went through a stop sign at Church and Washington streets at an unreleased time on Sept. 7

Jose M. Soto-Moreno, 22, of 4737 N. Central Park Ave., Chicago, was charged with driving with a suspended driver's license and speeding at 1:54 a.m. Sept. 7. Police pulled him over in the 8100 block of Milwaukee Avenue for allegedly driving at 50 mph in a 35 mph zone.

STOLEN

VEHICLES

Someone cut a chain and took a bicycle from the parking lot of Golf Mill Mall between 12:30 and 1 p.m. Sept. 11.

A black 1996 Honda Accord was taken from the parking lot of X-Sport Fitness Club, 9210 N. Milwaukee Ave. before 5:30 p.m. Sept. 8.

A bicycle was taken from an apartment common basement area in the 8600 block of Milwaukee Avenue. The burglary occurred between Sept. 1 and 12:06 p.m. Sept. 7.

BURGLARIES

AND THEFTS

An unknown man broke a window of a minivan in the 7500 block of Cleveland Street at 1:35 a.m. Sept. 12. The vehicle owner heard the breaking glass and saw the man leaning into the van. He yelled at the suspect who ran from the scene and escaped. Nothing was taken from the vehicle.

Two concrete statues were taken from a yard in the 8600 block of Ozanam Avenue between 10:30 p.m. Sept. 9 and 10 a.m. Sept. 10.

A bottle of medication was taken from a mailbox in the 8600 block of Shermer Road. The medicine was delivered to the home between Sept. 2 and Sept. 10.

A weathervane was taken from a garage in the 7200 block of Monroe Street between 8 a.m. Sept. 10 and 8 a.m. Sept. 11.

Someone took an electric saw, a first aid kit, and a pair of sunglasses from a minivan in the 8500 block of Oriole Avenue between 5:45 p.m. Sept. 9 and 5:50 a.m. Sept. 10.

A purse containing a driver's license, credit cards, glasses, and $180 cash was taken from a minivan in the 8500 block of Overhill Avenue. The burglary occurred between 6 p.m. Sept. 9 and 5 p.m. Sept. 10.

An unknown amount of gasoline was siphoned from a car in the 8000 block of Lyons Avenue between 6 p.m. Sept. 8 and 9 a.m. Sept. 9.

A purse containing a debit card, a cellular telephone, a checkbook, keys, and $50 cash was taken from an unlocked car at St. Adelbert's Cemetery, 6600 Newark Ave. The burglary occurred at about 2:50 p.m. Sept. 6 while the owner was visiting a grave.

VANDALISM

REPORTS

The windshield was broken on a car in the 8000 block of Lyons Street between 6:20 p.m. Sept. 10 and 10:45 a.m. Sept. 11.

A car was scratched in the 5600 block of West Howard Street between 10:28 a.m. and 12:22 p.m. Sept. 5.

Someone broke the side mirrors and door locks on a car in the 800 block of Harlem Avenue between midnight and 12:30 p.m. Sept. 8.

All four tires were slashed on a minivan in the 8000 block of Lyons Avenue between midnight and 10 a.m. Sept. 6.
