Niles Library Approves Technology Upgrades
Niles Library Board of Trustees last month approved $146,658 in technology upgrades for library staff members.
According to Don Burkhardt, computer services provider, 87 computers, 110 uninterruptible power supplies and 63 speaker units will be installed for employees sometime in January or February.
"Not too long ago, we implemented a long range plan to replace our technology every four years," said Burkhardt. "We pushed the current technology to five years this time, so the upgrades will carry a five year warranty." Burkhardt added that next year, board members will approve another upgrade for patrons of the library.
"The connection will be much faster and it will carry four times the amount of memory compared to what we have currently," added Burkhardt.
In other library news, the library will continue to host a program called "Reading with Rover," which allows children to come to the library and enjoy reading time with a selected trained dog.
The program will next be held on Jan. 28 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. It will also be held on Feb. 11, Feb. 25 and Mar. 11.
