High Schoolers Eye Good Cause For Annual Fundraiser
By opening up the nomination process to cast a wider net, the Niles North and Niles West High School organization of School Chest/Dance Marathon hopes to find a deserving charity or organization that is currently being under funded.
Over the last six years, students, faculty, staff and the Niles Township community, have collected $250,000 through School Chest/Dance Marathon to benefit various worthy causes. Last year, over $70,000 was raised for Partners in Health, an organization that provides healthcare for the poor in underdeveloped countries. For the 2008-09 school year, the beneficiary of fundraising efforts is Camp One Step at a Time, part of Children's Oncology Services, Inc. (COSI). COSI offers camp experiences and educational programs that allow children with cancer to have fun, friendship and support in a safe and nurturing environment.
"We are seeking nominations for a charity to sponsor for the 2009-10 school year," said Niles North student Anna Browar, a member of the School Chest/Dance Marathon community outreach committee.
In the past, proceeds from School Chest and Dance Marathon have benefited organizations such as Have Dreams, Rock For Kids, CAUSES, Bear Necessities, and the Children's Miracle Network.
Return nomination forms are due by Wednesday, Dec. 10 to Pankaj Sharma (Niles North), Jessica Fliman (Niles West) or Dena Lichterman (Niles West).
