School Dist. 63 To Honor TLC Volunteers
The East Maine School Dist. 63 Education Foundation is hosting its fourth annual "Carry The Ball For Kids" fundraising dinner to benefit its national award-winning Total Learning Community program on Thursday, Nov. 13 beginning at 5:30 p.m. at Chateau Ritz banquet hall, 9100 N. Milwaukee Ave. in Niles.
The evening celebrates the team effort it takes to build a community that is safe and beneficial for its children and seniors.
According to foundation officials, the "selfless" team of volunteers, staff, teachers, local schools and businesses are made up of a diverse group of people who show dedication and "carry the ball for kids" for the Total Learning Community After School program all year long.
Awards will be given to the following individuals:
* Volunteer of the Year- Tom Ahlbeck and Joy Anderson of Ahlbeck and Co.
* TLC Staff Member of the Year- Eva Perelgut
* Dist. 63 Employee of the Year- Nancy Tatera
* Friend of Education- Bob Abt and Abt Electronics.
Also, this year, TLC was recently named a 2008 Dimon Distinguished Community School by the Federation for Community Schools.
TLC is an award-winning community education program for children, families, senior adults and community members of all ages.
Its programming includes: homework assistance, field trips, parenting enrichment, family events, fine arts, specialty classes, sports, and recreation for children and seniors in the Maine Township area.
Throughout the seasons, TLC offers winter and spring break programs, weekend and after school programs, summer programs featuring the new TLC Summer Studies and the teen center for students in grades 5-8 in partnership with Maine Township.
Maine Township serves residents of Des Plaines, Park Ridge, Niles, Glenview and Morton Grove.
