Learn On The Job During Niles' Annual Citizen Police Academy

The Niles Police Dept. will host its Citizen Police Academy on Wednesday nights for 10 weeks starting Sept. 17 through Nov. 19, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.

The program is designed to give participants a working knowledge of the department and its functions.

Classes will include a ride-along with a police officer, firearms instruction, crime scene investigation, and other various law enforcement-related courses.

Any Niles residents or an owner or employee of any business in Niles who are at least 21 years of age at the time of application, and are able to pass a criminal background check, may apply.

Applications may be picked up at the Niles Police Dept. or by going to the village's Web site and search for Citizen's Police Academy. Class size is limited and applications will no longer be accepted after it is filled.

Anyone with questions about this program should call Sgt. Ron Brandt or Sgt. Tom Davis.
