Yard Waste Stickers To Double In Cost

Village of Niles yard waste stickers will increase from $1 to $2 beginning Sunday, June 1.

The $1 rate was established in 1995 and the increase only partially offsets the higher cost of yard waste disposal. A profit is not generated from the sale of yard waste stickers, according to village officials.

Residents are required to purchase a sticker and place it on the handle of a designated 32-gallon garbage can, or residents may place the sticker on any standard yard waste bag.

Residents can place an unlimited amount of yard waste at the curb on their regular garbage pickup date, provided a sicker is attached to each container/bag.

Niles officials are encouraging residents to purchase some extra stickers before June 1 at the $1 rate. Stickers purchased before June 1 will not expire and may be used for future services.

Yard waste stickers are available for purchase at the following locations:

* Village of Niles Administration Building

* Currency Exchange, 9107 Milwaukee Ave.

* Dominick's Finer Foods, 6931 Dempster St. in Morton Grove

* Jewel Food Stores, 8730 Dempster St., 8201 Golf Rd., 7900 Milwaukee Ave., and 567 Touhy Ave.

* Minelli Brothers, 7900 Milwaukee Ave.

* Senior Center, 999 Civic Center Dr.
