Walter Gluzkin Named As New Board Member Until '09
East Maine School Dist. 63 Board of Education appointed Walter Gluzkin of Glenview to the board last week to fill the vacancy created by Scott Langlo.
Langlo left the board last month and the remaining members held interviews last week.
Gluzkin has resided in Dist. 63 for the last nine years and currently has a son at Washington School. He is a regular at board meetings and helped out with the district's strategic planning process.
"This is something I had been planning on doing at some point," Gluzkin said.
He said the opening happened to be the perfect opportunity and he plans to run again in April of 2009, when this term expires.
Gluzkin added that he likes the current board and hopes to continue the success. One thing he'd like to improve is parent involvement in the schools and the board.
"I'll work to make sure the district is as good as it can be," he added.
Supt. Kathy Williams said four candidates stepped forward to fill the vacancy. Those four were interviewed by the board in early April and the decision was announced at a special Apr. 14 meeting to appoint Gluzkin.
