Troops In Line For A July 4th Pizza Party

While many will be celebrating Independence Day watching fireworks and parades, Elk Grove Village resident and retired U.S. Air Force Logistics Master Sgt. Mark Evans will be overseeing another mission, not only to bring pizza to troops serving in the Middle East but to troops returning home at Veterans Administration hospitals throughout United States.

Social Service Providers On Brink Over Budget

Gov. Bruce Rauner vetoed the state budget Thursday, a budget out of balance to the tune of between $3 billion and $4 billion. If state legislators and the governor do not come to an agreement by Wednesday, July 1, the state will stop paying many of its bills. That could mean devastating impacts for local social service agencies in the North and Northwest suburbs.

Two New Elmhurst Ramps Open Next Week

Area Searchers, Rescuers From Des Plaines, Elk Grove, Wheeling Respond

Gov. Bruce Rauner ordered the deployment of Illinois Task Force 1, an 80-member search and rescue team to areas south of Chicago hit hard by tornadoes June 22. Firefighters and a rescue dog from Des Plaines were among those given the call to respond.
