Men Pose As Former Roofers In Ruse Entry Jewelry Theft

A 69-year-old woman on Wimbolton Drive in Mt. Prospect reported a ruse entry burglary that occurred on Feb. 21.

Two men came to her home at about 3:30 p.m. and told her they were there to clean her gutters and inspect her roof. They convinced the woman that they had worked on her roof the previous year and she allowed them into her home.

Once inside, they asked for a bucket of water and she accompanied one of the men to her basement. After a short time, the other man called down to the one getting the bucket with her and he went back upstairs. The woman got the bucket and came back upstairs to find the men gone.

She assumed the must have gotten a phone call and had to leave and thought no more about it that day. However, on Feb. 22, she went to put away earrings and discovered rings, chains, and a pendant valued at a total of $7,670 were missing from her jewelry box.
